DVD offers about 2 hours of instruction with Bollywood basic and intermediate dance moves. It also contains history and stories explaining the origins of gestures and poses. The step by step instructions will make sure that everyone can master this dance. Pallavi shares her suggestions for making it authentically Bollywood. Plus, Pallavi shares her favorite Bhangra movements with you in a Bonus Fitness chapter that showcases the high energy Punjabi drums, guaranteed to raise your spirits and get the blood pumping! Also check out Pallavi's other choreography LEARN TO BOLLYWOOD DANCE AND FITNESS -AAJA NACHLE

About the Actor

Pallavi has been teaching the incredible Bollywood dance style to children, teenagers and women of all ages, shapes and sizes for about 10 years. Through her Bollywood dance school in the USA, she has championed this dance from India at numerous festivals, local news channels, and fitness periodicals. Pallavi is trained in several Indian classical dance forms like Kathak and Bharatnatyam. While she learned Kathak in India from an acclaimed Guru, she continued her Bharatnatyam studies when she moved to United States. After years of dedicated study, she graduated from the acclaimed school - Dances of India. Pallavi firmly believes that learning the mudras (handwork), adavus (footwork) and abhinaya (emoting) in classical dance have made her the dancer she is. These styles with their technique and discipline have laid a strong foundation for her Bollywood dance career. Although classical dance gave her the strong foundation, its the Bollywood style that is truly her passion. Through her LEARN TO BOLLYWOOD series, she hopes to provide quality Bollywood instruction to dance enthusiasts. Each LEARN TO BOLLYWOOD DVD provides an authentic, diverse & independent Bollywood choreography. Each DVD teaches you a choreography that can be studied on its own. Pallavi s dances are always choreographed to give the best fitness routine, where the body is constantly moving and the mind is constantly stimulated. Each DVD also has bonus follow-along fitness routines that are very rhythmic and quite fast paced. The drums and joyful music can keep you moving long after the music is done!

I would highly recommend this to someone wanting to learn more about Bollywood style dancing.

The instructor makes it so easy to learn the dance; she takes you through step by step and also gives a brief cultural background for each movement.

Let me start by saying that I am a Bollywood dance instructor as well as a full-time Middle Eastern dance teacher. I own hundreds of instructional dance DVD's and have attended trainings all over the world. For a mere $14.99 you can own this DVD which provides at least $150 worth of material.

True to advertising, this is an intermediate level instructional DVD. It is neither a hip hop Bollywood choreography (thank goodness), nor a feel-good, love-your-body fluff session. Pallavi is a classically trained dancer, and she presents a choreography that is based on a song, the meaning in its lyrics, and the dance movements and gestures which derive from classical Indian dance but which, according to latter 20th century Bollywood flexibility, are presented in a fun style. If this material were presented in a workshop form, there would easily be enough material to fill a two day training. The instructions are clear, and the movement and cultural background are provided too. Very classy, indeed.

Beyond the choreographic content, which is almost overly generous by itself, there is a bonus Bhangra section. This section is great for a warm-up for a Bollywood dance class, but it can also stand on its own as a cardio workout. I use the material as a warm-up with my students. An earlier reviewer commented on the camerawork. No - its not perfect. It doesn't need to be perfect in order for me to give this DVD a hearty five star rating. Run, don't walk, to get this DVD. Its the best value you'll get all year, and you'll be pleasantly challenged by the quantity and quality of instruction you receive. Beautiful work, Pallavi. I wish everyone took their art and their product this seriously.

The instructional format of this video has me feeling like I'm in the studio with the lovely instructor, Pallavi. If you've taken even a single dance class in your life, you'll be familiar with the format of standing behind the instructor as she faces the mirror, allowing you to have the full view of how the body is held and used in the dance. I especially like the explanations of the moves, putting them in their historical and cultural perspective. Finally! A Bollywood instructional video for those not previously schooled in traditional Indian dance.

I am new to Bollywood. This DVD was simple, and not only is it taught by a beautiful and easy to follow instructor, but it's meaningful! She deosn't just show you poses, and tells you the story of where the poses and moves come from. She also gives you the current names of the poses as well as the original, historic names. I also love that the video is filmed from the behind her. I get so confused when it's filmed from the front and I have to mirror the instructor. My brain just doesn't want to bend that way. I really enjoyed the dance and the music. The next time someone asks me for a good suggestion on Bollywood, and will be recommending this DVD!

This is a sweet and nice dance routine that focuses on traditional bollywood dance movements and explains very well how to do the movements and where one's hands should be or how foot work is to be done. I think the woman in it is talented and great teacher. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to learn to bollywood dance. My only complaint is the camera work which is very amateur and takes away from an otherwise great DVD.

This DVD is exactly what I was looking for. Unlike many of the similar items on Amazon.com, this DVD focuses more on teaching a dance routine than sculpting my buns or arms, so it feels a bit more authentic. It took me only a few days to learn the dance, thanks to clear instruction and easy-to-navigate chapters. The menu breaks the routine into 3 major sections, then you can use your skip button on your dvd remote to jump to different dance moves within the sections. Great if you get stuck on a particular move and want to watch it several times in a row. Now that I know the dance, I have sooo much fun doing it along with the musical performance on the dvd. As I was saying earlier, the focus is on dance moves and not so much excersize, but if I do the routine a few times in a row...I actually work up a sweat. There is also a totally seperate cardio section that is fun and a good light workout for my don't-wanna-run days. I hope i can find similar dvds with new dances to learn in the future!

Not only did I get a great amount of combinations for the Bollywood choreography, which in and of itself is a terrific workout, but the exercise portion offers an amazing, sweaty and invigorating routine! It's also a lot of fun, and inspiring - I love the Bollywood style of dancing, and the instructor makes it easy to follow. Her smiles and encouragement make me believe that I can accomplish the steps and actually learn to Bollywood well. Looking forward to the second installment of DVD!

A FULL choreography that expresses the music and the story being told. Finally! I love how the Learn To Bollywood series of dvds use REAL BOLLYWOOD music! Dhoom Taana and Aaja Nachle on Volume 2 are HUGE bollywood hits!

Most bollywood dvds have simple combos that have nothing to do with story-telling. But when you watch a Bollywood movie, everything they do is about the story. This is a first of it's kind in the bollywood dance style. More and more bellydance gatherings are including gypsy performances, tribal fusion performances and now, Bollywood. This is a solid number to use and tweak for years!
