About the Author

Chung-wen Shih is professor emeritus of East Asian languages and literatures at George Washington University. She is the author of A Guide to China's Cosmopolitan Age, as well as two PBS film documentaries, China's Cosmopolitan Age: The Tang and Return from Silence: China's Revolutionary Writers. She lives in Washington, D.C.
