The Best Book for a Beginner!, February 4, 2002
This review is from: Learn to Crochet in Just One Day: Right-Handed Version (Book 1146) (Paperback)
This book is easy to follow with step by step instructions & illustrations on all the basics. It takes you thru each step with extreme detail and helpful hints. I bought several books to help me learn to crochet, but this was the only one I used! I would highly recommend it for any beginner! I will also keep it as a "how to" reference.

Great pictures, virtual assurance of success!, June 11, 2003
This review is from: Learn to Crochet in Just One Day: Right-Handed Version (Book 1146) (Paperback)
I adore this book. As a knitter, I'd been finding more and more patterns embellished with crochet details. I tried to teach myself but a lot of books were too wordy and not basic enough. I can't rave enough about the pictures in this book....they are very very clear...what the stitch should look like, where you put the hook, etc. True to the title, I was crocheting the same day I picked it up and had completed one project the first weekend. I had signed up to take a crochet class before I bought this book. The class was so badly taught that a few of the students came over to me to share my copy of this book. By the end of the class the students using my book were crocheting! It is that good.

Best I've seen so far for a beginner!, October 8, 2004
This review is from: Learn to Crochet in Just One Day: Right-Handed Version (Book 1146) (Paperback)
I have trying to teach myself to crochet on/off for about 8 mos now. I actually started an afghan that's all single crochet and "thought" I was doing it correctly. I had to put it away because we moved our family out of state. During this time I have been practicing my stitches making small sample squares. I was getting frustrated because according to the other books I have, I was doing it correctly. But, the edges of my sc samples seemed really lacey or "holey".
Last night I was unpacking a box and came across this booklet. After spending about 15 minutes reading the basic sc instructions I realized I had been doing it wrong this whole time! This booklet has THE BEST illustrations compared to all the others I have purchased! Between the instructions and wonderful diagrams, I discovered that I was going into the 3rd ch from the hook instead of the 2nd (which is where I should have been). None of my other books or booklets for beginners shows you where your hook should go as well as this booklet.
Also, as a new crocheter, I was having trouble with that "elusive" last stitch on each row. NONE of my other instruction books actually show it. This one does and up close!
I plan on "frogging" my started afghan tonight and have no doubt that by tomorrow, I will have it restarted....CORRECTLY this time.
This is a wonderful booklet for beginners. THE BEST I'VE SEEN!!! Plus, its available in a version for left handers too!
