This is a book for those who want to take one step further than a phrase book, and learn something about the basics of the German language. It provides the basic grammer rules, some useful phrases, and some basic vocabulary. I got it because it's the size of a thin paperback, and I wanted to develop an understanding of the language. I'm pleased with it, and if you're starting from scratch and want a book to travel with you, you can't beat it for being compact, useful, and at a good price point.

I've got mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, there were some tips that did help me on my first trip to Germany for business. On the other hand, don't fall for the promise in the title. I guess there's no harm in a little puffery. Just don't expect to really have a grasp of the basics of the language by reading this book. So, if you are just looking for a book to open the door to the language a crack and possibly help with reading signs, this might be a good choice. If you want more, then keep looking...schnell!
