3.0 out of 5 stars Simple, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Learn the Hip Hop Grooves, Not Just the Moves Volume 1 (DVD)
The dancing in this dvd is good, but the music in the background is monotonous and uninspiring to dance to. This is a two dvd set. The the first dvd is all about the moves. It teaches basic upgrooves (footwork), locking (point, wrist), a few bboy moves (apache, charley-rock), and how to put together a rountine from the moves you learn. The second disc contains extended mixes I guess you can dance to after you learn the basic moves in disc one. Disc one has a running time roughly about 35-40 mins which is fairly short. But if you don't know how to dance like myself, then this dvd is better than nothing at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, June 22, 2006
This review is from: Learn the Hip Hop Grooves, Not Just the Moves Volume 1 (DVD)
I'm a dance teacher, so occasionally I buy DVD's to get new ideas and inspiration. This one was a total waste of time. When I fast-forwarded through the scenes of the dancers showing off there was only about 20 minutes of actual instruction. And it's not hiphop! To dancers with training, moves like pivot turns and kick-ball-changes (standard jazz dance fare), are disguised and called something else. There are no pop or lock moves, and the dance 'routines' are monotonous.

The good and real hiphop dancing on the DVD were the scenes in between the 'instruction' where dancers showcased their talents - but they never break these down or give any explanations of them. The dancers are good, the instruction isn't. And it's completing misleading to call it hiphop. It's jazz with a twist of funky style.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good dancing & GREAT instruction for beginners, September 16, 2005
This review is from: Learn the Hip Hop Grooves, Not Just the Moves Volume 1 (DVD)
I liked the Groovaloos since they seemed down to earth, really want to help teach & patient throughout the DVD, which made the dvd fun. They showed locking, pointing, wrist rolls, b-balling (breakdancing), Apache, Charly-Rock (Hip Hop of Charston) & the Shuffle.
They show off in the beginning & groove a bit between showing you a new step, but not too long. They show you first with each person doing it with their own flavor, then they show you the basic simple step slowly several times, facing you, side view & back view & then normal speed with all 4 views again. At the end of teaching all the steps, they teach you a full short routine with him teaching slowly like above. He doesn't count or tell you where to move everything, but since he's going slow at diff angles several times & gives a few cues, you should have no problem getting the hang of it.
The only complaints I had was the basic beat music played in the background which were probably added in post production. It was very muted to the point you could barely hear it & didn't make me want to dance at all. Also, though the teaching was 45 min, it didn't seem to have that much content & wished more.
The idea of giving you a bonus CD of the basic beat music from the DVD is great so you can practice w/the music alone. Each of the 7 tracks are over 6 min each, which is nice, but since the music was uninspiring it's a waste.
Some say they can't dance, yes, they're not the must fluid dancers w/the exception of "Boogie Man", but they are better then most, all athletic, can do physically demanding old school break dancing moves. If you are a novice/beginner, this is for you. If you serious about dancing professionally, spend all your free time dancing normally, taking dance training, are a natural, then skip this.

See previews and clips of them dancing on tv shows at their site goovaloos com or searching their name on youtube.
