Just because the book happens to have some cartoon style drawings in it, does not mean it is for children. I think the author managed to condense an amazing breadth of knowledge and experience into this little book. For this reason, it is impossible to think that a young child or even an inexperienced adult is going to be able to get it all in the first five minutes.

There is a great background presented for the various types of music, including some history that should help to cultivate true musicianship. I think it is a great introduction or even a perfect overview, but of course any serious student should consider a series of training materials.

I hate to see a valuable book shot down just because it is over someone's head. If learning to play guitar was simple, everybody would know how to play. Just as with any kind of learning, it takes repetition. That means persevering through frustration. Not throwing your hands up and blaming the author of the book for your decision to give up and quit.

I purchased this book to help teach my 10 year old to play. With over 30 years playing experience, I chose this book based on it's description here.

It is confusing, teaches non-traditional music reading, and completely frustrated my son.

Where are the classic Addagio 6 book series?
