hi freinds, though i'm not a very big fan of sitar ,i wanted to learn this amazing instrument,but i've always heard that it is very difficult to learn a musical instrument without a guru and a regular guidence.but my all concepts about this instruments changed after reading this book. this is one of the most friendly book i've ever read. it teaches u the basics of the instruments and step by step guidelines of learning process.i have not become a perfect sitar player but yes! i can play sitar upto a level of satisfaction.and thats even when i was'nt very keen to learn this art.

The information is there, but there is something of a language barrier. The title should give it away: "Learn to Play On Sitar". (Someone who spoke English would probably have called it "Learn to Play Sitar".) On the cover, you see that this is part of the "Learn Yourself Music" Series, and the back cover tells you the book is suitable for "professional, amateur or decorative." (Still haven't figured that one out.)

He introduces the Indian (Hindi?) equivalent of the English term for note, measure, etc., and then uses that term instead. This is a little more confusing than it sounds, because he is not entirely consistent in spelling a word the same way each time (some times on the same page).

I am giving this three stars instead of two, in spite of the language barrier, because this has become somewhat symbolic of my experience trying to learn sitar. If you are an American trying to learn sitar on your own, you either know what I mean or are about to find out. If you don't have the patience to sort through this book, then the sitar is not for you.
