Real Learning,

This review is from: Learn to Program with VB.Net 2008 Express (Paperback)
This book is a fantastic door to learning to program. The layout and method used to bring you into a classroom and work a project while learning the in's and out's of programming is groundbreaking. So many IT books are so technical that too much effort is required to follow the writing much less learn from it. The approach of this book uses a story combined with in class training and real project experience. That means this approach gives the reader all of that experience toward learning the Programming language in one tool. Those benefits in one book simply can't be beat.

This is a very easy to read book. It is well formatted and follows a logical sequence to teaching programming. The use of a real-world progam as a teaching tool is very useful. Would like to see future editions have additional excerises to expand on the lessons so that other uses of these techniques can be realized.

JUST GREAT!!!,
This review is from: Learn to Program with VB.Net 2008 Express (Paperback)
This is one of the best books I have ever read on programming. Literally, this book can be read just like a novel. John Smiley shows you how to write programs in such an easy way that you'll be surprised of what you can do after a few chapters. Not only you'll write code but you'll also understand WHY you're doing it. This book is intended to beginners but also to advanced users who are moving from previous versions of Visual Basic to the dot net.

Learn to Program with VB.Net 2008 Express
This is a great book for anyone new to programming. John Smiley uses the setting of a classroom, complete with fictional characters, to walk the reader through the basics of designing and coding a program using VB.Net Express. The class sets out to design a program for a local store owner. Everyone in the class is anxious to start typing code, but John stresses the importance of good planning before a single line of code is written. He teaches the class about the Systems Development Life Cycle, a protocol used to help computer programmers (and the class) work efficiently while meeting client expectations. John also briefly covers the history of computers and the basics of how a computer manipulates data. After laying this foundation, he then shows the class the basics of coding in VB.Net Express. If you have prior programming experience, you will probably not like this book. But, if you have little to no programming experience, or just like to get back to the basics like I do, this would be a good book for you. |
