I use this book for my kids when they're learning to read. I love the fact that it is simple (only about 4 lines per page), it introduces phonics, and they're learning to read by reading Bible stories. They also tend to use the same key word a few times on the same page, so they're learning to recognize the word after the first time or two instead of having to sound it out each time. My daughter loved it and my son just started it and is really doing well with it. I would highly recommend it for beginning readers! My daughter went on to read the Growing Reader Phonics Bible (Joy MacKenzie and Jill Newton) after this one. That seemed to be a great transition for her and once again, she's continuing to learn to read using Bible stories.

This Bible is the bomb for little ones learning to read or early beginner readers. It has new words -usually 2 at the top of the page for mom to read to child,They are highlighted in color there and in the text. That way the child knows it is the new word when they get to it.The text is short and easy words. On some of the pages, there are thought questions for mom to ask the child.Pertaining to the story or them self. The print is large size for little eyes and the pictures are in color and cute. They are eye catching so the child will enjoy looking through this Bible as well as reading it. They also make Bible story readers with sets.I can't seem to find these but if they are anything like this Bible, they are winners too.
It is hard to find easy reads in christian things for young readers,So I was blessed to had gotten this.THe seller was honest and the Bible was just like new.I was pleased with my purchase. So if you are looking for a easy reading Bible for your new reader-get this one.You will be quite happy with it.

The Learn-to-Read Bible, written by Heather Gemmen, is a great way to introduce early readers to the concept of reading a Bible.

This one is full of short text and lots of pictures. Like a regular Bible, it is divided into two sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Stories are presented from many, but not all, of the books of the Bible. There are 147 stories in all.

The sections are divided into chapters, most of which are only two pages long. Each page starts with two words to read aloud to your child before reading the rest of the page. Those two words are, in turn, highlighted in the text on that page. And each chapter gives a Bible reference for the story.

A letter to adults is included in the beginning of the book providing tips for how to make reading and learning about the Bible both educational and fun.

The illustrations are bright and colorful and cartoon-like, sure to please a child in the suggested age group of 4-8.

What I Like: Everything.

What I Dislike: Nothing.

Overall Rating: Excellent.

My grandaughter of 5 loves this Bible and is learning to read quickley. Her Sunday school teacher told me she knows all the answers to questions that are asked and tells the other kids in her class. She even remembers the stories months later.
We started reading it the end of last summer. Halfway thru she starting to read it to me by herself. I just read the two new words in the begining. Now when she started the New Testament, she began reading all by herself. She just turned six March 11, 2013 and will be finished with this in about 20 more days. She said when she is finished she is going to start over and read it all by herself and as many pages as she wants at a time.
We also do the hooked on phonics series.

Not what I was expecting. The chapters are little more than a paragraph or two, and do not tell a 'story' or convey an entire idea/topic that makes any sense to a child. I donated this to my church sunday school bookshelf. I got the Early Reader's Bible and it was exactly what I was looking for.

More About the Author

I'm an organized creative. For example, when I eat M&Ms, which I do way too often, I don't just shove them all down my throat; I make interesting designs with them, changing the design every time I eat a candy. A friend once pointed out to me, though, that my designs are always symetrical and structured.

Someday I may be adventurous and spread my M&Ms randomly on my desk and close my eyes to pick the next one. Better yet, maybe I'll really shake things up and buy Skittles.
