5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginner video
I bought this DVD because I had never been snowboarding before. I just wanted something that would tell me what to do, and what to expect. I didn't want to become an expert overnight, I just didn't want to fall on my butt getting off of the lift!

This video was perfect! It was simple and straight forward, without a lot of tricks and complicated stuff. The...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite worth the price
I bought this DVD together with Fresh start snowboarding DVD. I have to say I like the other one a lot more.

The information provided in this DVD isn't too bad, but too short for it's price. It follows a first time snowboarding student through her lessons. The first few chapters are really nice explaining how to choose your snowboard for the first time...

The indoor training was a great idea, because it was nice to feel what a snowboard feels like before you get up on a snowy mountainside!

A great video!! A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginner Homework, December 5, 2005

This review is from: Learn To Snowboard DVD - Boarding Skool (DVD)
As a beginner I was looking for books and DVD's to supplement my lessons. This DVD makes everything seem so easy and clear. I was able to follow the tips and improve somewhat by watching and trying.

I would agree with the previous reviewer that by using an instructor as the student, the DVD does make learning seem a lot easier than it really is. For me, moving around on the board when not riding the board is one of the most challenging things. I find it extremely difficult to skate and move around with one foot tied perpendicular to the direction you want to go.

I bought this DVD together with Fresh start snowboarding DVD. I have to say I like the other one a lot more.

The information provided in this DVD isn't too bad, but too short for it's price. It follows a first time snowboarding student through her lessons. The first few chapters are really nice explaining how to choose your snowboard for the first time.

But when it gets to the actual snowboarding technique, this is where it falls short. You get to hear what the teacher briefly and shortly teaches the student. Then it shows the teacher does it once, and shows the student does it onces. Repeat that for every technique.

This can be a nice overview for first time snowboarder I guess. But still, with this amount of information, it's not worth the price. You can find free lessons online with even more information than this DVD with even longer explanation.

I highly recommend the Fresh Start Snowboarding DVD and the tutorial at abc-of-snowboarding over this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good, February 7, 2006
This review is from: Learn To Snowboard DVD - Boarding Skool (DVD)
I found that this video wont be of much value for beginners who want to improve their snowboarding abilties. Some of the information presented is useful but most is just superficial or poorly explained. The concepts in the lessons are not explained well enough for a beginner to understand and translate what's being taught onto the slopes. I thought this video could have been a lot better but after watching it, it really falls short of being useful. [...].

3.0 out of 5 stars Good dvd., December 1, 2005

This would be so much easier if they would have, had the instructor teaching a new boarder. This movie is the instructor telling the other instructor what to do. This makes no sense to me at all. If they were teaching a new boarder, I think it would be way easier to learn. That way you can see what mistakes they did, and what you can do to avoid that mistake yourself. Plus the place where I went snowboarding at was a hill, not a take your time going down the hill kind of thing. Otherwise, it seems like they cover some very helpful skills.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not thorough enough, November 15, 2011

I'm in my second year of snowboarding and I checked out this video simply as a refresher. It filled it's purpose to me as a refresher, but that isn't the purpose of the video. This video is for beginners, but it doesn't have enough information for a beginner. Before my first season snowboarding I watched a different video that was very helpful. By comparison I was surprised at the lack of detail in Snowboard Skool. Snowboard Skool spends just a few seconds telling the viewer how to do something then shows one very short example of a rider performing the move. What the video really lacks is covering the underlying concepts of snowboarding. In other words, it only teaches the "how" and not the "why".

I'd recommend Fresh start snowboarding. I'll try to add a review of that video too.

1.0 out of 5 stars short, low-budget, not that helpful, March 26, 2006

I was really disappointed in this DVD. At less than 30 minutes, it's not long enough to contain what you need to know to get out there safely. It also felt pretty slapped together, and the instruction was kind of patronizing. I'd look for something else or spring for the private lesson on the slopes.
