Product Description

Discover Spanish through the magic of a great teacher

Fluenz Spanish is based on three principles:

1) There's no substitute for a great tutor. It's often difficult to motivate yourself to learn a language on your own. Having a teacher to challenge and inspire you, while explaining exactly how the language works, makes all the difference.
2) The best way for adults to learn Spanish is with explanations in English. For example, it is impossible to understand the difference between the critical Spanish verbs "ser" and "estar" without a clear explanation in English. With Fluenz, a real tutor guides you in English along a path specifically designed for Spanish.
3) It's best to learn the most relevant words in Spanish right away. Fluenz has you handling a wide range of real-world situations right from the start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly pleased March 1, 2012
I was well into the second disc Spanish program for Latin American Spanish when the version for Spain arrived. As an educator myself, that is the real key - has my use of the content allowed the new learning to "stick"? As a comprehensive review, I started the program over to "tune my ear" to the different accent, and recently completed session disc 1:10 of the software. So far, the differences in vocabulary have been minor, but my retention of content has been surprising solid.

There are several great improvements to the program since I received my first "red box" from Fluenz:
- the use of adult learning strategies is clear, and the program's design is deliberate and meaningful
- the "completion status" bar on the bottom of the screen is incredibly helpful
- the presentation of concepts, while similar to the previous version, is very straightforward, which I like (and, to be honest, why I bought the program in the first place for one of my students... and now I'm using it myself)
- the accompanying CD allows me to continue to listen, learn, and practice
- The biggest challenge is the speed at which Spaniards talk... but I need to accommodate their rapidity when I am in Spain. The program does a good job of providing the native speed in the sessions.
- Vocabulary changes are minor, but meaningful (Perdon vs disculpe, el coche vs el auto, etc.)
- Duare's explanations are clear and effective - not your average "talking head"

There are also online resources, such as online flash cards (they are awesome) and podcasts, for the Latin American version, but I am also looking forward to the Spain version. I have several friends who are native Spanish speakers, and they appreciate my attempts to speak their language to them. I hope I will be able to say the same when I am in Spain!

I have tried several and this is by far the best. I have rosetta stone and have tried a couple others, learn in your car and things like that. Ever new lesson I start I think wow, I hope I can learn this and at the end of the lesson I think that was easy. I love love love this product. I am moving to Spain and will now know how to communicate when I get there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant February 26, 2012
Fluenz is absolutely brilliant, truly a one of a kind approach to learning!
Great concept, very addictive, user-friendly, and with the most amazing customer service I have ever experienced!
Have reached Spanish 5 now, able to communicate in another language, and have gained even more desire to continue learning! Something I find extremely valuable for me is doing the flashcards over and over again, until I recognize/recall the exact response almost immediately as cards come up!
Besides English, I do already speak Russian, German, Norwegian and recently also learned French. With my French I basically used a combination of Rosetta Stone and Michel Thomas. To get proficient, I needed lots of "native" TV, music, conversations, so now with Fluenz I get a wonderful combination of most other approaches with unique focus on the most used vocabulary, phrases, grammar, ... that covers the important first essential's
A must buy :-)

I cannot praise Fluenz' products or customer service enough! I enjoy these language programs so much that learning languages has turned into an addictive hobby for me, and I have purchased all five of the available languages. There is no more fun way to learn something truly useful and fulfilling. I first tried Fluenz after several failed attempts to learn with Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, Berlitz, and other methods. Rosetta Stone, often considered Fluenz' closest competitor, does not even come close. The lessons on RS are boring, tedious, uninspiring, and just throw vocabulary words at you - which does not teach you to form sentences let alone communicate. Fluenz, on the other hand, teaches you very quickly to form complete sentences, and vocabulary that would actually be relevant to the adult traveller. The best thing about Fluenz is the way it never gets boring, so you want to continue until you have succeeded. They take a multi-dimensional approach with a variety of fun activities in each lesson that never become boring. These include typing what you hear, typing translations, matching English phrases with their Spanish equivalents, speaking into a mic to compare your accent with native speakers, and more. And Fluenz programs are all chock full of beautiful photographs of the countries where the language is spoken, which is improved further in Spanish (Spain) with even more inspiring photos, which change every few lessons in this new program. I also wish to add that Duare Perez, your teacher, is very charming, pleasant, and competent. Customer Service at Fluenz is also second to none and they have always responded promptly and in a way that meets or exceeds my expectations. This program is truly outstanding and the ONLY language program I would recommend out of the several I have tried. I am totally hooked on language learning thanks to Fluenz!

5.0 out of 5 stars Floundered in Rosetta Stone, learning well in Fluenz November 24, 2012
Verified Purchase
We recently bought Rosetta Stone and neither my wife nor I could make any genuine progress in the system and it became very discouraging. (We had seen all the commercials and were sure it was the way to go. Wrong.) After trying to break through Rosetta Stone's learning curve, we finally gave up and went and bought a copy of Fluenz, based on their claims that this was "something different." Yes, and what a difference. Fluenz is much more intuitive and the method of teaching is so methodical and commonsense that now, not only are we learning to speak Spanish, but we are also learning to read and write Spanish -- right down to the accent marks and punctuation. We couldn't be happier. The Fluenz team have done a masterful job in making what is clearly the new gold standard in language training. Kudos to their team and their support has also been great. Over the Thanksgiving holiday I bought a new laptop and wanted to move my license from my old machine to my new one, I sent a note to the support address and figured I'd hear from them after the holiday. Instead, a few hours later I got the help I needed to successfully move the license. Fluenz is a first-rate company and both my wife and I are delighted at the decision we made to give learning Spanish, another try -- this time, we are well on our way. Thanks to Sonia Gil, Duare Perez and all the Fluenz visionaries, coders and support team. You rock!
