4.0 out of 5 stars good approach
the best way to learn a language is to use it. this cd system teaches you phases then has you use them as it guides you, and records how close you get to sounding like a native. it also shows you how to conjugate, but you don't mind because it's things you've already said. it also let's you work at your own pace. well worth the money. au revoir!

The software may be good for beginners but intermediate and advanced learners will be disappointed. The basic and intermediate sections are very basic, though the extended features has some items of interest. The constant English audio instructions (no option to switch to French) are useful once, but annoying afterwards.

Technically, the software runs slow and the voice recognition feature is cumbersome and buggy. Not the best product available by far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, June 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Learn To Speak French 9 Deluxe [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
This software is awesome for learning French! First you start off learning the alphabet and learning vowels, etc., then you move onto Basic Phrases, Beginner I, Beginner II, and then Intermediate (Comprehensive Courses). A reference book comes with the package along with 5 CDs. It has frozen one time in the pass, and sometimes the speech recognition can be frustrating. However, great software product overall.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible software. Don't buy it., July 27, 2004
This review is from: Learn To Speak French 9 Deluxe [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
This software is useless. There is no clear course for learning. Its difficult to navigate through the lessons and its even more difficult to recognize what they consider to be a lesson. Don't buy this software...you will not learn French.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, October 22, 2005
This review is from: Learn To Speak French 9 Deluxe [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Let's face it; French humor has always been ahead of its time. From "Basic French Brush-Up" to "Learning French the Fast and Fun Way!", the French have always made gut-busters. "Learn To Speak French 9 Deluxe" is no exception. It's from the same comedy troupe of the two afforementioned flicks and the laughs are plentiful. My favorite scene is probably the part when they set up phony interviews with French citizens in Paris when it's raining so you know they're gonna be like "TRES MAL!!!" The only downside is when they interrupt the movie halfway through so Anthony Hopkins can push the "In Living Color" DVDs. Apart from that, my catz and I love to get up late at night and watch these DVDs. My wife, not so much. My catz and I awake her with our laughter which is not good because we have been on shaky terms since our wedding day when I broke into a hardcore freestyle rap session. There are many notable jokes in the film, like when they say that there's a restaurant in the Eiffel Tower and that the top of it is used as a radio tower! Not to be missed.

Pete G. Williams lives in Michigan with his wife Marissa and forty-some-odd cats.
