AWESOME BIBLE STUDY TOOL!,
By
This review is from: Learn to Study the Bible (Paperback)
Bible study is something that is so overlooked and under-appreciated. This book takes it from a scholar's level and helps people understand that ANYONE can study the Bible! It's very applicable and since it presents so many different ways to do it, there's sure to be one (or a few) that fit every reader.

A Handbook for Studying the Bible,
By
This review is from: Learn to Study the Bible (Paperback)
This is a very interesting handbook for studying the Bible, for the new Christian, to the Christian who has been reading God's Word for fifty years. Learn to Study the Bible: Forty Different Step-by-Step Methods to Help You Discover, Apply and Enjoy God's Word is written by Andy Deane, who is an associate pastor at Calvary Chapel Old Bridge in central New Jersey where he oversees a junior high ministry.
This 248 page book contains 40 different methods of studying your Bible, from basic Bible study methods, major Bible study methods to creative Bible study methods, and not just in written words, but also by example with handwritten notes to show how it can be done. There are methods such as Daily Bread (basic - one of the simplest ways to begin discovering the specific truths in five steps); Timothy Method (basic - using 2 Timothy 3:16-17, find the doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness); Verse-by-Verse Charting (major - using a five-column chart), Bible Characters, Biblical Topics and Bible Themes. One of my favorite methods I use, that I usually have called the Inductive Bible Study Method, is a combination of a few studies in this book, including, Chapter Details, Book Overview, Book Details and the Messy Bible Method. (I thought that funny! I do like to mark my Bible!). Learn to Study the Bible is ideal for anyone to encourage them - from the seasoned Christian who needs to find new ways to discover God in the Scriptures, to the new Believer, who just does not know where to start and how to even begin studying God's Word. This handbook would be ideal for highschool homeschoolers, learning to use different Bible study methods, using it as a one or two year curriculum as they work through the different methods and Scripture. It would also be ideal for a graduation or birthday gift, for young and old alike. It's recommended!

Great Resource!,
This review is from: Learn to Study the Bible (Paperback)
This book is packed full of ways to make scripture study more interesting and insightful. Mr. Deane has assembled a wide variety of ways to approach scripture - from looking at entire books of scripture to focusing on one single verse. The forty different approaches mean that study doesn't become routine, and also suggests that there will be new ideas and inspiration to be gleaned each time a passage of scripture is studied from a new angle. For anyone who is wondering how best to ponder God's word, this book offers concrete suggestions for putting pencil to paper and mind to thought.

Excellent book!,

This review is from: Learn to Study the Bible (Paperback)
I've never purchased a book on how to study the bible because I thought I knew all of the methods. The major methods include:
* Topical studies * Character studies * Word studies To my surprise, I found that this doesn't begin to scratch the surface of the different types of studies there are. Yes, there really are 40 different, viable study methods in this book and it doesn't even count the methods specifically for younger students. (five additional methods) Andy's book goes into great detail and gives a hand-written example of each method. Each method is designed to help you delve deeper into God's Word; gleaning as much truth and understanding as possible. For me personally, since I've employed some of his methods and seen things I haven't seen before, it has caused me to reevaluate some erroneous beliefs I held. He does not give commentaries so he is not the reason for this reevaluation. It is because I'm looking at the bible more carefully using these methods. I highly recommend this book. It gets five stars.

Great Motivation for Delving Deeper into the Word,
This review is from: Learn to Study the Bible (Paperback)
Before agreeing to review Learn To Study The Bible, I checked out author Andy Deane's website and a sample chapter from his book. The site contained informative bible study articles and a well-written excerpt. Both made me want to learn more from this pastor and Christian author.
The first section of Deane's book was everything I hoped it would be as the author described the four core components that serve as the foundation of every bible study. Deane then used the remaining chapters to share forty different bible study methods that readers can use to interpret and apply scripture to their lives. While I felt that some of the bible study methods were too complex to commit to memory and others were similar to techniques already mentioned, there was something to be gleaned from each chapter. I especially liked the hand-written examples Deane provided to demonstrate the appropriate use of each method. There are too many to mention in this review, but two of my favorite quotes from the book are found below: "When we study the Bible, we should do so with the intention of allowing it to transform us. Our goal is not to master it, but rather, to be mastered by it." (p. 20) "An unwillingness to apply the Scriptures to our lives will inevitably lead to spiritual insensitivity to the Lord and to His people. If a Christian is careless in Bible reading, he will care less about Christian living." (p. 35) In summary, I believe that this pastor and author has a lot of knowledge to offer. He has motivated me to delve deeper into the Word and will inspire other readers to do the same.

Let me ask you these simple questions:
1. Has studying the Bible become somewhat of a bore for you? 2. Are you finding yourself simply "going through the motions" when it comes to studying God's Word? 3. Have you tried several methods of studying the Bible, yet they leave you feeling overwhelmed? Confused? If you have answered "yes" to any of the above questions, have I got a wonderful treat for you! Learn to Study the Bible is a beautiful, exciting, original and enjoyable Bible study book written by Pastor Andy Deane. This 248 page book contains 40 step by step methods (yes 40) to help you discover, apply and enjoy God's Word in a whole new way. Some of the methods are "Daily Bread, SPECS ON, Alphabet Method, Verse-by-Verse Charting, Twenty Jesus Questions, Royal Wisdom, and Meeting Jesus." Parents of teens, there are Bible study methods for them as well. Some methods are "Heart Monitor, Weather Report and Climb the Ladder" (Cool titles huh?). FYI, my teens love studying the Bible more than ever now! Thank you Pastor Deane)! Got your curiosity peeked? You will no longer study the Bible using the "same old routine" again. I am so glad he wrote this book! I have purchased many, "How to Study the Bible, How to Study God's Word" books and the majority of them are collecting dust on my bookshelf. AWWWW! but then I received Learn to Study the Bible and I HAVE NOT PUT IT DOWN! I am using the "Daily Bread Method" and I absolutely love it! It makes me see God, His Word and His promises in a whole new light! So, you say that you have been reading the Bible for many years. Well, there is a method in the book for you. There are methods for beginners, intermediate and advanced Bible readers. I promise you will not be disappointed when you get this book! I have always been extremely intimidated by the bible. Which is why Learn to Study the Bible (ISBN: 9781607915768)([...]) was so interesting to me. With this extremely helpful book, a method (or rather various methods) are presented as viable and informative ways of reading the Bible without feeling overwhelmed or as though you are not really fully benefitting from your readings.
Learn to Study the Bible demystifies the reading process and breaks it down in easy to manage pieces that are helpful and will guide you to better understanding the Scriptures. I like that this book is aimed at a layman audience - someone like me who feels intimidated by the Bible and its contents. Learn to Study the Bible has given a "floor plan" of how to study the Bible in order to get the most benefit out of my readings. I also like that there is a section on how to help "the younger" generation have a better understanding of the Scriptures. Very nice and helpful book.

WOW! I have to go into this saying that I am a youth pastor and as anyone working with youth knows, it can be a challenge sometimes keeping things fresh in our own studies and down right discouraging at times trying to teach youth how to study the bible. A friend of mind who also works with youth recommended this book to me for personal use as well as something to put into the hands of the youth in my church. I was blown away when I got it in the mail and started reading it! The amount of research he had to do to put this book together would have caused my head to explode I think :-). But seriously... 40 methods? I was so encouraged by this book and the design of it that I am taking my youth through an 8 week study to help them look at different methods to use. The author does a great job of keeping things simple with each method and not overwhelming you with information. Basically as someone who spends a lot of time studying I recommend this book to anyone who wants to start studying the bible or is currently studying it and has the desire to keep their relationship with the Lord fresh and lively :-). Changing study methods every month would take you 3 years and 4 months to go through them all :-)! Enjoy the book though, you will not regret getting it!
