I'm new to surfing. This summer I was fortunate enough to move to a great surfing location. I decided to take lessons and took a series of 5 classes. I then bought a board and am practicing my skills. I was hungry to learn more and to get a glimpse at what comes next. So I bought this book and am very pleased with it. The entries are succinct and informative, clear and well written and cover in detail the essential information; and they are generally accompanied by photographs that quite helpfully illustrate what the author is writing about. Please refer to Amazon's "Look Inside Feature" to see the wide range of subjects covered in the table of contents.
Without doubt, this is a book I will be studying and referencing for a long time to come as my abilities improve. I'm so impressed with it that I decided to order the companion volume "Learn to Surf for Beginners." I expect there will be much to learn from it in spite of my lessons with an excellent instructor.
The price of the book may seem high for the number of pages, but if price is judged by information the book is a bargain.

This book turned out to be a nice surprise for myself. Academy of Surfing Instructors indeed seems like a serious organization, committed to educational goals through the teaching of Surfing and development of the Sport. Congratulations for your contributions to Surfing Physical Education.
