Good supplement to lessons,
By A Customer
This review is from: Learn To Swim In A Weekend (Learn in a Weekend Series) (Hardcover)
I learned to swim in 1995 at a local swimming center. It took me over 2 months before I could do all the strokes for 25 meters, and I went to the pool several times a week during that time. So don't expect to learn everything in a weekend. You need to have a teacher or a coach to learn swimming, but I found this book to be very helpful as a supplement, especially the very clear photographic sequences and drawings of the strokes. The book isn't waterproof, and you can't read it while swimming of course, but I would review one of the strokes at night and decide to concentrate on one or two things during my next session, based on the book. The original publisher of the book was Dorling Kinserling (sp?), and the heavily illustrated style of the book is similar to their other offerings. Later I bought a Total Immersion book, which was mostly text and not so helpful. Recently I bought Swimming Even Faster, which is an amazing book, but not for the faint hearted, since it is very detailed and technical.

Not a Must,

I'm happy I purchased this as a used book. It's more of a picture book displaying equipment, how to get in & out the pool, and what swimming looks like underwater. The visuals are great, to really showing you the "how to's in a weekend" aren't there per the title. I read the entire book in bed the same day I got it. Late at night. Simple to the point, but not educating you on HOW TO SWIM and especially not in a weekend.

I realise the book give very detail demonstrations and advice for the beginners to swim. Furthermore the pictures give better understanding and encourage the beginners to swim in a leisure or relax way.
