I am very impressed with this product the lesson plans are engaging, thorough and encourage more research. All of the lesson plan pages correspond to pages and passages in the book.Going to the library should be encouraged to expand knowledge on historical figures or passages in this book but are not required.Art and other non-core subjects are injected into the lesson plan which is not only helpful but fun for the kids.

Every week M-F is planned including test reviews.I recognized that one of the lessons plans matched verbatim from the book when she previously attended a very expensive private school.I found many other days were used as well.So you are getting a book with lesson plans even the best schools use without the astronomical cost.

Most states require a minimum of 180 days of instruction for homeschool I do feel this meets the requirement.I purchased this ahead of time and read the whole book to get familiarized with it.As a convenience,I suggest you do the same and make a shopping list. They sometimes use everyday items on hand like shaving cream to combine learning and fun so it's good to plan ahead.

My girls lke to complete many exercises on their own with little to no assistance; so they are easy to read and follow.

This book is pretty well presented, with 36 weeks worth of schooling planned day by day, which is exactly what I needed as an inexperienced homeschooling mom. There are some extra activities proposed and story books suggested to reinforce the lessons, which is great. There are a lot of easy activities proposed for the comprehension of the lessons, which I like and my kid even more. You do need a little bit of planning the night before so you know what you'll be working on and what you need to prepare (even more with the Kindergarten version). Some lessons are taken gradually which I think is good so it reinforces the comprehension of the field learned, but it seems that others go a little bit too fast. For example, they teach nouns, verbs and adjectives in one week each and there is no more mention of it through the rest of the book; I'm not sure that my kid will remember what they are by the end of the shool year (I might take it upon myself to refresh his memory every now and then). Two things that I would have liked to see in this book are: having a quick list of what lessons are being taught each week (instead of just week 1, week 2... in the table of content), as well as an overall list of all the books that are being suggested to read for each week .
Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this book because it is very usefull for me. This is what I use to homeschool my boy.

This curriculum is GREAT. I love it, my son is loving it. My only real complaint is it NEEDS weekly (or yearly, I'm not picky lol) supply lists. Just a page at the beginning of each lweek telling needed supplys and books would have been so very helpful. I've ended up sitting down and spending hours going through the book creating all the weekly supply lists (cause otherwise you will not have what you need, especially with the books to read). I know you can just tweak and sub each day if needed but if you want to do the curriculum as written the supply lists are needed. It would have been awesome to just have them in the book already. Otherwise this is a great curriculum and we're loving it :)

This is not a full complete curriculum for the first grade but it is easy to suppliment. Some children who have been to public school for Kindergarten might find some of the lessons very simple. Others might find it just what they need. My daughter was in public school for kindergarten and is finding the begining weeks langauge and math very simple. If your child hasnt mastered the letter sounds and being able to sound out most simple words the reading may be just fine because it does progress into a more grade level appropriate curriculum. The math does as well. The lessons as they go on get better but I will still need to suppliment, there just needs to be more depth to our lessons(at least for my daughter at this time). I suggest this book if you are going to use other resources to suppliment. The books suggested in the lesson plans were easy to find at our local library also I added more books to fill some gaps.
Over all I like this book. Its great because the lessons are all planed out all you have to do is read them, gather your material, and go to work. My daughter likes the lessons and really loves the worksheets.
A good suggestion is read your lessons for the week on sunday and make sure you have everything you need for the week. Also add more books.

I looked at lots of workbooks and am so glad I chose this one. It provides detailed instructions with daily lessons plans that are easy to explain. I like the flow of this one so much better than "Making the grade..." (which I borrowed from the library).

I use this book with a great reading website (starfall) for a perfect fit for my 6 yr old daughter.

This book is amazing and the quality is as if I went to a book store and bought it new. The lesson plan is so simple to follow. It is like homeschooling for dummies(HAHA). It is also fun to do with your kids very hands on for you and your child. I tried alot of different avenues for teaching my 5 children. This is definitly the one. I used Jean-Wolfe's curricullum for teaching my older kids which are now 18,19,21 years and was very sad when the were no long publishing this. (Which are now up to $260 used). So when I found this curriculum exactly the same concept but new and a very small fraction of the cost I couldn't wait for it to get here for my 6 and 8 year old. CAN YOU TELL I"M PLEASED. P.S. THANK YOU LOVE THE HOMESCHOOL MOM
