Disappointing,
By Cruz deWilde (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Learning Autodesk Maya 2009 The Special Effects Handbook: Official Autodesk Training Guide (Paperback)
While the title is clearly intended to lure people into believing that the book's contents are keeping pace with the latest product release, those familiar with older versions of Maya will quickly find that the book is filled with screen shots from older versions of the application (that don't match up to the screens you'll see in Maya 2009) and makes only the barest passing references to one or two of the new and potentially powerful features in the latest release of the product. For example, the built-in in stereoscopic camera, integrated anaglyph and side-by-side view ports, and stereo-composite rendering capabilities made available in Maya 2009 are not even mentioned in this book, let alone thoroughly documented. This guide may be useful for someone who has little or no background using Maya, but for anyone looking for documentation of features specific to Maya 2009, this book is really a waste of time and money.
