5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, absolute genius.
Switchfoot's first album (The Legend Of Chin) was great. Their second album (New Way To Be Human) was fabulous, an obvious growth and change, but it didn't make The Legend Of Chin look any worse for wear. And now we have Learning To Breathe, and the boys are better, more intelligent, and more mature than ever, while still hanging on to the humor and creativity that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Less Quirk, Less Filling
The above CCM review states the first cut is about as far from quirky as you can get. And that's a GOOD thing? Man, I really loved the first two Switchfoot Cd's because they were incredibly quirky and fresh. But there were also touching moments that moved my soul. I've had this 3rd release for a few months now and have waited to see if it would grow on me. It hasn't...

Switchfoot's first album (The Legend Of Chin) was great. Their second album (New Way To Be Human) was fabulous, an obvious growth and change, but it didn't make The Legend Of Chin look any worse for wear. And now we have Learning To Breathe, and the boys are better, more intelligent, and more mature than ever, while still hanging on to the humor and creativity that made the first two cds as good as they are. How they do it, I may never know.

LTB is, in a word, amazing. Not as simple as TLOC, not as excitedly eclectic as NWTBH, it is at once entirely new and at the same time distinctively Switchfoot sound. There is a clearer rock base to the cd. Not that it should even be classified...

Every song is completely singable. From the opening notes of "I Dare You To Move", something inside you will say "Oh, this is going to be good!" From the near-choir group power of "Love Is The Movement" to the cynical-happy "Poparazzi", not to mention the ballad "Economy of Mercy", which has a beauty (reminiscent of Switchfoot's "You" or "Only Hope"), every song is a gift.

If you've never heard Switchfoot, you'll love the style. If you've been a longtime fan, you'll be happy to hear that they're not just good, they're better all the time. Having met them, Switchfoot is three guys who are humble and genuine. And they're brilliant. And they know where to give the credit: up to the Ultimate Artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars The legend of Switchfoot, September 26, 2000

Switchfoot never disappoints - in fact they always amaze. The new album is no exception. For a college student who likes intelligent art, both musically and lyrically, there's no better find than Switchfoot. "Learning To Breathe" dives right in, tackling the tougher issues of life, and like the opening song declares: they "dare you to move." They dare you to live life like it's the only one you've got, "like today never happened before." Music fans need to have this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, September 11, 2004

I first heard Switchfoot at an outdoor all-day concert in Texas and I gotta say I wasn't a fan. This was when their newest was "New Way to Be Human" and the songs on there were a little less than okay.
Cut to, I'm listening to the radio and hear "Love Is A Movement" and I HAVE TO KNOW who that is. When I found out it was Switchfoot I ran out to buy the CD. The songs are nothing short of amazing and for a young soul-searching band their songs are incredibly moving and thought provoking not to mention the vocals practically carry you away. "Dare You to Move" is one of my favorite songs of all time because it's satisfying in every way. The melody is just beautiful, the lysrics are so heart-felt and in-depth that they give you goosebumps, and the vocals in the chorus are the best I've heard. And like I said before "Love is the Movement" is a great song. It's probably my favorite on the CD.
This band is still young but on the verge of greatness and this CD has sent them from teatering on the edge to comfortably in a place of reverence. If you're looking for a great CD collection this CD is a must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums, February 2, 2001
This review is from: Learning to Breathe (Audio CD)
Switchfoot is definitely one of my absolute favorite bands, if not all time favorite. I love all 3 albums, but I think that this is the best so far. Some reviewers have said that this was not the album they had hoped for, well good! I for one am glad that it is different. New Way to Be Human and Legend of Chin were also excellent albums, but this just hits home every time. The songs are stirring and cause you to think about the lyrics. My favorite is track 6, "Innocence Again." The writing is some of the best you'll ever hear; the songs are personable and deliver. Jon Foreman (lead singer/songwriter) says that it is his goal to write a song a day, and it is demonstrated throughout. The music is more somber than the last two outings, but it gels with the introspective songwriting well.

The bottom line is I have given this album as a gift to a couple of friends and both have absolutely loved it. I highly recommend this album to anyone who likes good music

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome album full of excellent songs, August 19, 2001

I was very suprised when I came upon this really great band. I love Christian music and decided to check out Switchfoot, and I'm glad I did! This band has an incredible sound, a very talented vocalist, very thoughtful lyrics, and a great abilty to craft tunes that really stick with you. I have found myself humming almost all the songs on this CD to myself. All the tracks on this fine CD are at least good, most are excellent. Personal faves - I Dare You To Move (one of the most super-charged songs I've ever heard), Innocence Again, Love is the Movement, Loser, Playing for Keeps, Economy of Mercy, and Learning to Breathe... wait, that's well over half the album! The lyrics are wonderfully written, as well. Some of the best are in Economy of Mercy, just listen to it and you will be moved. It is a powerful statement about the relationship between God and humans! Putting it simple, buy this CD NOW if you like either Christian music or alternative music even a bit - it is a real treat! It will surely have an effect on you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holding My Breath!, February 8, 2001

I still remember hearing the single "Learning to Breath" and wondering: Who is this? This is great music. It took me a while to discover the artist, and I instantly added the album to my wish list. I wasn't disappointed.

Switchfoot's first two albums are great, but this one moves a step farther toward a perfect blend of rock sensibility, moving and thoughtful lyrics, occasional wit, and stirring creativity. Sitting on the sofa, my wife and I wrestled through the cellophane and dropped in the CD for the first time last week. We were blown away. No, this doesn't have quite the reckless energy of their first album, or quite the biting satire of the second--this one blends it all. Some may be disappointed, but we found ourselves smiling.

This is great music. This is music that'll make regular rotations through my CD player. This is music that grows on you.

I waited with bated breath for this album; I'll be holding my breath for the next. In a world of has-beens and wannabes, Switchfoot continues to rise above the crowd.

I got the Beautiful Letdown (which was anything but) and was thrilled by this CD as well. I escpecially love You Already Take Me There, Economy of Mercy, Playing For Keeps, and Learning To Breathe. Go buy this--you won't regret it at all. If you buy this, you can pat yourself on the back!

5.0 out of 5 stars It was a fluke..., August 18, 2004

My roomate, who is a DJ, brought this home for me one day and gave it to me. He gives me all the stuff he doesn't like or isn't really his style... some of the stuff he gives me is truly a waste of time, but this CD... what can I say??? I let it spin and spin and spin in my CD player over and over again. I still think it's their best album so far! I would have never gone to the store and picked it up (not a big music junkie), but I found this CD REFRESHING. It's not your everyday sound with everyday top 40 lyrics.

I would have paid twice the price for this CD in a heartbeat...it's that good. This CD made switchfoot my new favorite band, and I went and got all their other stuff, which is great in it's own right. Their first album is a little raw, their sophmore album is awesome, though a little short. THis album ROCKS, and so does their newest.

Can I say anything else??? Buy this album!!!!
