Book Description

September 1, 2011
This comprehensive and cutting-edge book portrays a vision of how digital media can help transform schools, and what kinds of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, and learning environments are necessary for that transformation to take place. The author and his research team spent thousands of hours observing classes and interviewing teachers and students in both successful and unsuccessful technology-rich schools throughout the United States and other countries. Featuring lessons learned as well as analysis of the most up-to-date research, they offer a welcome response to simplistic approaches that either deny the potential of technology or exaggerate its ability to reform education simply by its presence in schools.

Editorial Reviews

Review

''Warschauer pulls together the points that many champion on principle, but makes the case on the basis of sound empirical evidence, compiled into a coherent plan...this book is important, even crucial reading...that every player with a stake in the game needs to read: teachers, administrators, parents, and politicians. And not to put too fine a point on it, this is what I think should be our next 'man in the moon' project; implementing these ideas comprehensively, as a nation. He's given us the vision, now it's up to us to execute.'' --eLearn Magazine

The author's analysis of data collected in recent research in different schools in the USA and his reflections on positive and not so positive experiences gives teachers and educators deep food for thought about the adoption and use of technology as a tool to improve education.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ironic September 14, 2011

It's about Learning in the Cloud. Why is this not available digitally on Kindle, etc.? If school systems invested as much on teacher training to integrate technology as they have on the technology itself, the return on investment in terms of academic achievement would be that much greater.
