Book Description

February 1, 1997

Congregations today face an adaptive challenge of immense proportions. Many respond with classic signs of work avoidance: holding to past assumptions and blaming authority. Thomas Hawkins's new vision of church leadership can provide a way to break through these defensive routines. The Learning Congregation is a must read for all pastors and church leaders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifelong Learning, March 25, 2006
This review is from: The Learning Congregation: A New Vision of Leadership (Paperback)
Hawkins' book places current thought on leadership within the context of a congregation or parish. He uses multiple references from scripture to illustrate the model of the Learning Congregation. Anyone in a leadership role would benefite from reading this book. Although not a quick read, Hawkins' style is not pedantic or overly scholarly. Many thought-provoking insights and ideas for personal and institutional growth.

This review is from: The Learning Congregation: A New Vision of Leadership (Paperback)
I bought this book for a class I was taking in Congregational Leadership at Loyola Institute of Ministry. I enjoyed this book very much. It is an excellent book and has many leadership principles applied to ministry. You would do well to read this book upon entering any ministry field, whether with a congregation, or a chaplaincy program or an educational program. Good luck with your ministry!
