5.0 out of 5 stars Good spoon really makes a difference!
I don't know why these spoons aren't more popular in stores. They're vastly superior to the ubiquitous Gerber spoons or any of the others that I've tried. Like many, they've got that great soft coating so they doesn't hurt my baby when she bites down. But (unlike the Gerber spoons), these are concave enough to actually hold some food and successfully get it in the mouth...

3.0 out of 5 stars Colored Soft Bite Spoons
Very durable and dishwasher safe; much better than plastic spoons. My only gripe, certain vegetables discolor the plastic coating (ex. sweet potatoes turned the blue spoon greenish on the tip). Otherwise, they are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good spoon really makes a difference!, July 17, 2006

I don't know why these spoons aren't more popular in stores. They're vastly superior to the ubiquitous Gerber spoons or any of the others that I've tried. Like many, they've got that great soft coating so they doesn't hurt my baby when she bites down. But (unlike the Gerber spoons), these are concave enough to actually hold some food and successfully get it in the mouth (as opposed to just schmeared all over it). More over, they're beautifully balanced. May not seem like a big deal, but it makes the feeding feel more like dealing with baby, and less like shoving food on the end of a flat stick. Unlike the plastic spoons out there, these have a nice weight to them. Not heavy, but not about to flick food by accident. Feels silly to be writing a review for a baby spoon, but someone obviously did their homework and put a lot of care into the design. Kudos to them! Do yourself a favor and buy a buch the first time around, as they can be hard to find (or in the case of purchases online, cost money for shipping). You'll become a spoon snob at your friends' houses when you get stuck using their spoons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well designed spoons, May 18, 2007

These are great spoons - they are a good size (not too big, not too small) and have held up well over multiple feedings and rounds through the dishwasher. My daughter can feed herself really well with these, as the food does not fall off too easily and the handle is a good length.

I love these spoons. My son likes to bite down on spoons, so the soft rubber spoon is great. The handles are a nice stainless steel, and don't look cheap. They're a great value.

A friend of mine who also has a 6-month old recommended these spoons, and I really like them. They look like straightforward "real" spoons, which I find more fitting (and appealing) than some of the other oddly-shaped and licensed-character-laden baby utensils, just smaller and narrower per baby's needs. My daughter seems to agree! They also arrived very quickly, within three days.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Baby Spoon, July 26, 2010

This review is from: Learning Curve Meal Mates Colored Soft Bite Spoons, 5 Pack (Baby Product)
I have four kinds of baby spoon (sassy, gerber, toss'n'go, and these) and these meal mates spoons are my very favorite.

I have been using these spoons for two months, from my baby's age of 6 mo to 8 mo.

Pros:
The most comfortable spoon in my hand, well-balanced, no sharp edges, not fatiguing like the sassy spoons and gerber
A good shape for my baby's mouth, don't lose food on the way in
Hold just the right amount of food, I like a spoon that isn't too big
Bright and cheerful colors
Dishwasher safe, I have not observed any staining or bleaching from the dishwasher
Nice weight, not too light

Cons:
Yes, carrots do stain them. Maybe reserve the orange one for carrots? I really don't care about this, so I use them all for carrots
Food can build up around the back edge of the plastic coating. If you're hand-washing, be aware of this spot
Not great for travel because they're heavy

As for the other spoons I have:
The plastic toss'n'go spoons are best for traveling because they're light and indestructible. They are nicely proportioned for little mouths.
The gerber spoons are fine, but not as comfortable or well-balanced as the meal mates.
I really don't like the sassy spoons. They do have the advantage of an extra long handle and they change color with temperature, but the plastic coating is too thick and too soft, and the spoon is uncomfortable to hold. Worst of all, I find the sassy spoons taste like plastic, Yuck.

I'd trade them all in for these meal mates spoons. I just like these spoons best. A good, simple implement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great spoons, but got discolored, May 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I use these spoons a lot for feeding my eight months old twins. The handle is made of stainless steel while the spoon basin is made of BPA and phthalates-free plastic. ( I emailed the manufacturer to find that out and they responded quickly). The colors were very vibrant at first but soon started to absorb the color from carrots and sweet potatoes. I would give the spoons five stars if not for this. I hand wash them, so I can not say how they withstand dishwasher. Made in China but what is not? Actually, I found spoons that are made in GB: Avent Weaning Spoons 2-pack, but they are pricey.

Do yourself a favor and stick with Gerber spoons or another brand. These are NOT dishwasher safe!!!! I have used them for only a couple months (have a ten month-old who didn't start solids until 5 months). After just a month or so of use, the spoon color started to fade and bleed and change to a brownish yellow stain on each one. They are awful. I won't use them anymore because I'm worried about what could be getting into my baby's food. I highly recommend you avoid this item.

They are spoons, really what can I say about them. They go fine through the dishwasher. I like them. Pretty colors, soft tips. Two thumbs up.

4.0 out of 5 stars they work, April 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We got these spoons for our 6 month old. They work well and are a good size for his mouth. He likes to play with one while we feed him with the other, so the metal part is not always so great for playing. But, the plastic spoons are all more toddler-sized and too big for his little mouth. These work fine for now.
