Gr 4-8-A well-organized explanation of the learning process and a look at different types of disabilities: perceptual, motor, language, thinking, and behavioral. Personalized examples are given and activities and strategies are suggested to help students overcome their problems and improve their skills. Attractive black-and-white and full-color photographs show children in a variety of social and academic settings. Some interesting drawings serve as samples of disabilities, and a few tables clarify the text. There is plenty of white space to make the book easier for youngsters with language disorders to read themselves. This is an up-to-date summary, including ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), as well as dyslexia. It's for a younger audience than Gary Fisher and Rhoda Cummings's The Survival Guide for Kids with LD (Free Spirit, 1990), and is a more general discussion.-Margaret C. Howell, West Springfield Elementary School, VA
