5.0 out of 5 stars A reader from Florida, February 26, 2006

This is a remarkable textbook and a must-have for anyone desiring an initiation to the medical coding field. It has virtually all the features I would expect from a practice-oriented contemporary book: it is self-contained, well-organized and, in particular, completely up-to-date, and contains extensive references to real contexts and self-evaluation material. Despite the complexity of ICD-9-CM, authors managed to keep the text to a reasonable length and information density, and the progressive presentation of subjects makes the material relatively easy to digest. I most appreciated the balance of theoretical discourse, examples and diagrams, with "red flags" and "tips" to help novices perform as experienced professionals. In my opinion a copy of "Learning to Code with ICD-9-CM for Health Information Management and Health Services Administration" is an excellent career investment. I only wish there were an accompanying CD containing all the provided hyperlinks, a library of forms, practice quizzes, simulations, etc. I hope all this material will one day be posted on a supporting Website. Otherwise, the book is just great.
