Gr 3-4-These series entries typify the problems with factual writing for young audiences. While the books have a generally appealing format and include paintings and photographs of their subjects, accuracy falls prey to idealization and oversimplification. Mosher describes Lincoln as being "loved and respected by everyone." Washington inaccurately states that "the colonists did not like being ruled by England." This generalization of colonial opinion neglects those who were not opposed to British rule. The audience for these titles is old enough to grasp the concept of varying opinions. Highlighted terms are followed by phonetic spelling. Some glossary definitions are unclear by virtue of oversimplification.-Susan M. Moore, Louisville Free Public Library, KY
