3.0 out of 5 stars Terrible proof reading!
Who ever helped write and proof read this book did a horrible job. There are so many errors that I found it frustrating to read. Page 77 is missing it's biblical quote and page 93 is completely missing the quote from Chris Ward. Page 90 is completely missing two words in the last sentence of the second paragraph which reads "Two of the words he heard were and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and life changing., May 25, 2009
As a nurse I have read several books on death and dying. This book however, provides the documentation from the experience of a spiritually awakened physician that unconditionally loves his patients and is secure in his pupose. The result is a page turner filled with heartfelt words of wisdom those patients entrusted to him, of experiences and conversations in angelic realms, prior to passing. I am so proud of a fellow human willing to take the risk to follow what he knows in his gut to be the right thing to do, while a member of a medical establishment that is often slow to risk stepping out of what is considered acceptble.

The book resolved several conflicting beliefs I have struggled with in trying to understand our world in relation to a bigger plan. I have the utmost gratitude to all sharing the messages contained in the book, as well as the individual contributions resulting in my having it in my hands today. Thank you.

Dr Lerma - continues to share stories of his patients and their experiences of their last minutes of life -- this book continues to be
as inspirational as his first book - and would recommend it to anyone
who is interested in knowing more of pre-death experiences (non-fiction)

I would rather not comment on someone else's review because everyone is entitled to their own opinion no matter how skewed it might be. But I just can't resist the temptation to do a little clarification here.

The person who gave this book one star and called it garbage because Lerma talks a lot about Jesus needs to understand something.

First of all you are reading a book written by a Christian, not a Muslim, nor Hindu, nor Buddhist. You are reading accounts from people who have grown up in a Christian culture.

If this book were written by a Hindu telling of the pre-death experiences of Hindus it would have been stories of people having visions of Krishna or Shiva and not of Jesus.

This fact does not invalidate these accounts however. They are still real. I know it's hard to wrap one's critical thinking around this fact. There are whole courses in the annals of philosophy explaining why this is so.

The Universal Something (whatever it may be) that we call God allows us to see it the best way that suits us. One of Lerma's patients even said so.

So Hindus would naturally see Krishna and not Jesus. A Buddhist would see the deities of his religion and culture instead of angels. The spiritual realm appears to you in the way that you find most comfortable.

For me, personally, I would rather not see anything. I would just want a nice peaceful feeling to accompany my passing over for that is what I strive for all my life and I think that that is what I'm going to get.

You really get what you most deeply want. That doesn't make the experience any less real though.

Simply because it's coming out of your most deeply ingrained wish fulfilling desire doesn't make it unreal. The Universal Something pours itself into whatever form you subconsciously create for it to communicate with you.

That's also the reason why we don't have one world religion. But everyone is still worshiping the same one Universal Entity which appears in different forms.

Say you have a deep ingrained wish fulfilling desire to win the lottery and become wealthy overnight. Your numbers come in tonight and it happens.

Would you refuse to collect the dough on the basis that it's just a wish fulfillment come true and therefore not real?

Hey, if you do just let me know. I wouldn't mind switching my reality for your overnight riches "unreality".

P.S. Another thing: I think the author didn't write verbatim exactly how the people spoke to him using their exact words because it's just harder to do so, and it's not really important how they spoke.

What were needed to let known were the ideas that these people conveyed. Remember that the angels themselves can't even talk. They have no vocal cords. Please read the book in a mature way and stop whinnying.

One of the best books I've read on the subject! Go Dr. Lerma!Very uplifting and calming.
This is one of those books you'll hate to turn loose of but you know you will pass it around to friends and colleagues. This is going to be one those books worn out from use.
He has his own style of writing that I like. He's a physician and gives his take as one following people as they spend their last moments here on earth. A heartwrenching thing to have to go through I imagine, but I'd like to have him by my side when I go.
He keeps an open mind yet still questions things like a man of medicine should do. But he doesnt let science get in the way of the facts either. Something more people need to do.
5 stars and I cant wait for another book from him on the subject. Now I need to read his first one!
Kevin

In browsing through some book suggestions on topics like "Near Death Experience" and "Life After Death" I was led to this book by Dr. John Lerma, and his first, "Into The Light". They sounded interesting - a nationally respected hospice physician tells his accounts of deathbed experiences of angelic communication and out of body experiences. Having never heard of this author before I set the bar very low on my expectations.

After reading these books I am pleased to share that I thoroughly enjoyed them both. I do not mean to boast but I am very well read in this area and have a library of hundreds of books on similar topics. I found Dr. Lerma to be honest, empathetic and professional. His experiences with his patients and their profound experiences have clearly shaken the foundations of his secular training.

Dr. Lerma keeps the stories simple, without need for a lot of digression on his part. In large measure he communicates his patients experience, how it appeared to change them mentally, physically and spiritually and in turn how it affected both he and his staff. Most important and appreciated however is the information conveyed by his patients, either directly from angelic visitors and deceased relatives or from the experience of the patients in reconciling their experiences with their previous conceptions of life and what it is all about. These patients seem to calmly and sometimes even excitedly anticipate their impending death following the amazing experiences they have had.

This book is just a simple collection of experiences by an open minded physician and his staff. These experiences have clearly changed their lives for the better in deep and powerful ways. Considering that the doctor and his staff regularly, on a day to day basis, deal with the death of people they have come to know and love, especially so many children, I find these stories and their implications both compelling and important. I highly recommended this book and "Into The Light" to anyone looking to find inspiration about life, death and meaning for everything that happens in between.

We all have doubts concerning the after-life and this book gives one a greater science of how a normal transition occurs. Even though I'm a practicing christian I have many questions as to the life after death. Dr. Lerma is truly a emissary from God as he relates his experiences to all so that death is more readily understood.

This review is from: Learning from the Light: Pre-Death Experiences, Prophecies, and Angelic Messages of Hope (Paperback)
I have read many books about near death, dying, and angels. "Learning From The Light" is an amazing book!!! Once you open it, you can't put it down! The stories are so inspiring, so moving... I don't have the words to describe how this book as well as "Into The Light" (Dr. Lerma's first book) has changed my life!! His books are like warm fuzzy blankets on cold snowy days!!! I have given his books out as gifts to so many people! These are must reads!!

This is a very good book. If you are at all interested in death, before and after, also including events to come on the earth in the near-(very near NOW its 2110) future. This is a book worth buying.Basically its about people dieing at hospice, he is a doctor who actually cares and spends time with his patients, and their sharing their visions that they get from angels that come and show them events to come. It puts a beautiful light on death and even dieing. (God willing your pain free in the process.)I believe there is also a part from a high ranking and well known soldier who was at Roswell and had to get some stuff off his mind before passing.I herd him on a radio show and so many people saw how those government people who have their underground shelters all die in the cataclysm, because the planet (or satellite ) coming, with the alignment of the planets in our solar system ,at the time, cause this planet to (not his words but mine from my understanding) grow bigger crushing those deep underground.

The hospice doctor Lerma, who wrote this book, has some very interesting stories to tell. He has been involved with patients and what they see in their last hours on Earth for several years. Some of these are faascinating. Anyone who has an open mind and is willing to accept the notion that things happen around us which we can not visualize will enjoy this book greatly. I think for a person who has a serious illness, this book would give them hope of an afterlife and the chance of reuniting with one's long since dead friends and relatives. Who knows, maybe there are things we can not see until our time is nearly up.
