Learning Mastercam Mill Step by Step: Book & CD

For sure this book does not teach you anything about mold and die machining. It does not teach how to run a Bridgeport or how to get rid of burrs. You wiil not learn how to use a micrometer or grind a drill. What this book does very well is to teach a beginner how to use Mastercam Software. A person who never used a computer can learn the software by just simply following the instructions. I wish I can rate this book with 10 stars. It certainly deserves it. I highly recommend this book as an aid for teaching Mastercam in schools as well as for the industry.

I own a small machine shop and had no time to take classes on Mastercam. I was fortunate that someone recommended "Learning
Mastercam Mill Step by Step". This book helped me to make up my mind to purchase Mastercam software.In a very short time I was able to write programs for my 2D parts. The authors put together a complete learning package which includes a CD containing the student version of Mastercam V9 and accompanying tutotials and exercises for me to practice. The book is well written with clear graphics which I found is easier to follow than lots of text definitions. I wish there is a similar Mastercam book on turning. Thank you.

While a co-worker was spending hundreds of dollars to learn Mastercam at the local college, I learned as much at the same pace at home with this fine book. It should be sub-titled as a tutorial. The book begins assuming you know nothing about CAD or CAM. It carefully explains in a straight-forward method all you need to know. Everything is done in sequence so each excercise teaches new commands to be used. It is a great primer for new users learning Mastercam Mill. I have shared it with experienced users at work as a reference manual for 2-D machining. The book comes with a Students disk containing Mastercam software and exercises, to help you learn. This was a real time-saver for me. I would recommend this book to all beginners and professionals.

being a former cnc programmer and now instructor i am very impressed with this book. It is easy for novices to learn the proper techniques of mastercam programming. It presents a logical learning pattern using graphics instead of confusing
and lenghty definitions contained in many other texts.I found the exercises to be well designed to illustrate the important
aspects of the software. Machinig exercises contain detailed
process tables to help the student understand the sequence of operations and tooling needed to produce the part. As a bonus
the text comes with a fully functional student version of mastercam V9.0 and accompanying student exercises so students
can practice at home. I like the fact that the authors concentrated on laying a through foundation in 2D CAD and
machining and not creating more comfusion by mixing in more complex topics like 3D CAD and maching principles. I assume
additional in depth texts on mastercam turning and 3D machinig will follow.

Extreme care and painstaking detail went into this user-friendly primer on Mastercam. I feel it is a great way to introduce machinists and CNC operators to Mastercam 9 and virtually minimize the traditional learning curve. It is also good for advanced programmers who need to brush up on some of the basics. I myself needed to master some specific processes such as creating operations and tool libraries, which isn't explained well in the help menu or other Mastercam texts. I found it was explained in this book in a thorough manner with graphic details of each step. I would recommend it to CNC tech students, machinists and operators who would appreciate something written from a machinist's point of view.

I found this book very usefull in picking up Mastercam, has good chapter review exercises after each chapter with easy to follow CD-Rom examples.

I've been trying to teach myself Mastercam Mill for the past 6 months, and it was going so slowly till I read this manual. The step by step instructions and pictures helped me visualize what I had to do, its almost like being at a training center. I have gained a concrete grasp of mastercam and I could have not done it without this book. The CD was a great help, I was able to practice all the examples hands on and then compare it to the included completed projects. Kudos to the authors for their great work and realizing that this type of tutorial is exactly what students like me need. Thanks.

I have tried to learn Mastercam from manuals and other
types of materials. This text takes a totally different
approach to presenting complicated material by using
graphics and pictures so the reader gets the idea more quickly.
The inclusion of the CD containing follow along student
exercises and mastercam V9 software for student practice
made this a truly awsome deal. Good job.

I must agree with the other reviewers. The authors have managed to produce an excellent title that will help all of us cnc novices. The diagrams, instructions, as well as the included cd made for an excellent hands-on experience. I would strongly recommend purchasing this book from a cncbookstore. Thank you for this great manual, now I have a strong grasp of mastercam.

MORE THAN 90% of all metal cutting in our shop uses 2D machining. The authors understand the needs of an average machine shop and provide an excellent in depth coverage not found in any other texts I have tried so far. The use of graphics instead of words to explain principles makes it easy for me a foreign born skilled worker to learn the software. The text even comes with a bonus CD that has the student version of the software so I can practice at home. I sent a book to my brother in Mexico whose english is very poor and he was also able to learn the basics of Mastercam. Muchas Gracias Amigos!!
