Don't buy this version of the book. It's OLD. There is a more to date book called "Learning Maya 5: Rendering" And there is a section on Mental Ray and Final Gathering that is not to be missed. This book is not bad however. It's slightly clunky and hard to read but there is a LOT of useful stuff in there. Do yourself a favor though and get the more up to date book. The added chapters are the best in my opinion.
