1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't learn hardly anything., October 6, 2008

This review is from: Learning Web Page Design w/Adobe CS3 Student Edition (Spiral-bound)
My class has been using this book for 5 weeks now and I can honestly say that I haven't learned much at all. The book is hard to follow, explains things in paragraphs instead of step by step instructions like a computer program should be explained and very few photos showing examples. The only step by step instructions is at the end of each chapter called "Procedures" where it is all vaguely cramped on to less than one or two pages covering several "how to" topics. I ended up buying the Adobe Classroom in a Book for Dreamweaver to get me through this section of the class and because this book also covers Flash, I suspect I will be getting the Classroom in a Book for that too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very frustrating, June 8, 2009
This review is from: Learning Web Page Design w/Adobe CS3 Student Edition (Spiral-bound)
This is a textbook in my Web Publishing class. It tries to show how an actual website gets developed using Dreamweaver. The core of the book is a series of step by step exercises that gradually build a website. Here are the reasons the book is so frustrating:

1) Information out of sequence. Some of the exercises require knowledge that is only provided by later exercises.

2) Ambiguous instructions so you're not sure what the final product is supposed to look like.

3) Everything builds on earlier work. So if you make a mistake in any exercise, all the later exercises become impossible.

4) The book focuses almost entirely on how to do things, not why. If you want to learn how to make good design decisions, this book won't help.
