5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up from a rads resident
As a current radiology resident in Virginia, I have checked out this book at the bookstore and its way better than the book we have traditionally been teaching our med students from (Squire).

This is the same author as the website Learningradiology.com which has alot of this material online for free. We basically teach our medstudents off of...

3.0 out of 5 stars An okay introduction to radiology.
At times I found this book to be lacking in detail. This book may not cover enough material to be complete enough for an elective in radiology and it is certainly inadequate for anyone interested in radiology. It is particularly lacking in most of the subspecialties (e.g. neuroradiology, GI, body, more in-depth MSK) of radiology. It does, however, lay out some basic...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Text, May 26, 2007
This is a great new book, richly illustrated and ideal for medical students in their 3rd and 4th years, rad tech students, physician assistants, radiologist assistants, and trainees -- especially in Emergency Medicine, Surgery and Internal Medicine -- who will be called on to interpret everyday bread-and-butter examinations.

It stresses the important fundamentals in a bulleted, easy-to-read format that is less onerous than some other fundamental texts but substantial enough to allow one to make the diagnoses that non-radiologists are called on to make. In addition, the on-line material available for access with this text has dozens of really great interactive, image-based quizzes that are keyed to the book.

I would highly recommend this book to all students, interns, residents and health care professionals who need to learn the fundamentals of radiology.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the basics, April 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My medical school recommended "Essentials of Radiology." I ended up with that one and this book. This book is by far superior with regard to teaching the principles and content. It is NOT dense (compared to Essentials) and it has most of what you need to know for an intro course to radiology. I think maybe in a few years Essentials may be more helpful, but for a non overwhelming intro, this book is better.

Well, its an excellent book for a md student, it goes straight to the point in a very easy way. Reading it is so easy; I think that anybody (without medical training) could read it and learn radiology,

5.0 out of 5 stars Content is OK - watch out for binding, August 11, 2011

This review is from: Learning Radiology: Recognizing the Basics (With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access), 2e (Paperback)
You may have to get this (however very helpful) book rebound at a place like Kinkos. I had this book for a week with mild daily studying and it had already started losing its binding.

UPDATE: I have been contacted by the author and the publisher. They will take care of any issues you have if you happen to get an unlucky binding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mandatory for aspiring Radiologists, July 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Strongly recommended. If you devote the time to reading this book in its entirety (it would only take a few days) and perusing the Student Consult site and Learning Radiology website, you will without a doubt honor any Radiology rotation and dazzle your attendings. That is my firm belief. Kind of busy right now, will adjust this review later, but I did want to begin it and place 5 stars on this book.

I also recommend Radiology Recall for medical students looking to make smart comments on Radiology rotations. If you are not planning on entering Radiology, you may want a superficial guide such as First Aid Radiology. I write this from the perspective of a current 4th year med student.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific introduction to radiology, July 23, 2008
This book manages better than any of the other fundamental radiology texts I've read to be complete enough to give you a solid foundation in radiology and short enough that it can easily be read on an elective or for a focused course or exam.

The book provides a basis in all areas of radiology with emphasis on plain films, because that is what we see most as beginners. But it also covers the fundamentals of body and head CT scans, including the most commonly found diseases, GI studies and everything in musculoskeletal radiology from arthritis through fractures, back pain and bone tumors.

Besides the text, you gain access to about 50 or so interactive and really great, case-based tutorials and anatomy quizzes on the web that provide practical experience for most clinically relevant imaging problems. If you're looking for an inclusive, yet easily manageable fundamental text that will help you through your electives, exams or clinical work, I recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for learning the basics, November 9, 2007

I'm a PA student and we didn't spend a lot of class time on radiology. When I had to take a test I needed a good review. This book worked really well and was easy to get through. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book, February 4, 2012

This review is from: Learning Radiology: Recognizing the Basics (With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access), 2e (Paperback)
This is an amazing book for medical students looking to get a handle on the basics of radiology and the interpretation of images. This book is simplified to the point where it is an enjoyable read without sacrificing content, and covers most of the day-to-day images students will be expected to identify.
