5.0 out of 5 stars Complete MEAL set ... Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner ..., May 18, 2006

This review is from: Learning Resources - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Foods, Set of 44 (Toy)
The Learning Resources Pretend & Play Meal Time Play Set (LER 7295) is a good quality play food set made of soft, durable plastic.

The Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner set is each individually wrapped in its own nice, sturdy plastic (hand) shopping basket. The Breakfast set (LER 7296) includes: fried egg, two bacon slices, muffin, pancake, bowl of strawberries and a glass of orange juice. The Lunch set (LER 7297) includes: hamburger patty, hamburger buns, slice of bologna, slice of cheese, two slices of white bread, four potato chips, watermelon slice, piece of lettuce, tomato slice, ice cream cone and a glass of milk. The Dinner set (LER 7298) includes: chicken leg, steak, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, green peas, roll, piece of lettuce, slice of tomato, piece of cake and a glass of milk.

You really get alot of good quality play food with this set. I am very happy with this purchase.

UPDATE Feb. 2011: Almost 5 years later and this food set is still in GREAT (near new) condition, despite being played with frequently over the years. My boys still play "restaurant." I've been served many "delicious" meals (and priceless memories) with this food. :) I wish I had bought more sets since I only paid $6.53 shipped for the ENTIRE SET. I bought it from imaginarium.com (which was part of toys r us) when they were leaving selling on Amazon and were trying to get rid of their stock. But there was no picture or description when I purchased it, so I just rolled the dice (hoping I was getting a good deal) and ended up with a FABULOUS purchase. Knowing what I know now about the quality of the food set, I would gladly have paid more. Like I said, it is still in the same condition that it was new. The baskets are made of a thick, strong, sturdy plastic. The only items that I did not keep were the small butter pieces. I threw them away immediately because they were clearly a choking hazard. The strawberries (which are also a choking hazard), I did keep and only let them play with them when I was right there. I later ended up putting them away when my son put one in his mouth when I turned my back for a second to answer the phone. So, if you have small kids (or kids who put things in their mouths), do not give them the butter pieces or the strawberries.

Also, if you are looking for some good quality dessert/snack foods (that also have educational value), I also purchased these around the same time: Smart Snacks Rainbow Color Cones, Smart Snacks Counting Cookies, Learning Resources - Smart Snacks Piece-A-Pizza Fractions). Again, all of these are still in the same condition they were new (despite being played with frequently). It's rare (and pleasantly surprising) when you find toys that actually withstand being play with by children. :) The pizza pieces are a choking hazard and should not be given to small children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely satisfied, May 18, 2006
This review is from: Learning Resources - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Foods, Set of 44 (Toy)
For Christmas, I bought my daughter a kitchen. However, it came with only 4 or 5 pieces of fake food. I saw this and decided for the price, I had nothing to lose. Even though there wasn't a picture, I decided to go ahead and pick it up. I'm so glad I did and my daughter is too. You get 3 different baskets divided into separate courses: breakfast, lunch, dinner. They baskets are a great size and have a handle so they can be carried around. They're like the baskets you can carrry at the supermarket. There are approcimately 11-14 pieces of food in each basket for example, a fried egg, pancake, bowl of strawberries, sandwich, burger, corn, peas, potatoes, bread, steak, chips, cake etc. What I like the best is there aren't any cardboard boxes which get destroyed easily. All in all, it is a very good value and I am very satisfied.

This entire Learning Resources line is amazing! I hesitated buying this set at first because it was so expensive. However, it is worth it! The pieces are large, most of them being the size of the real thing. They are not the cheap thin plastic that breaks and smashes easily. They are durable, thick plastic that will definitely last. I have purchased other play food sets and they just pale in comparison. I also like that there aren't any labels or cardboard because those seem to get smashed easily and/or tear. I absolutely love this whole set. So much, in fact, that after I received these, I bought the sandwich set and healthy snacks set as well. Highly recommend!!
