5.0 out of 5 stars Plastic animals for toddlers
I bought the Learning Resources Jumbo Domestic Pets and the Jumbo Farm Animals too for my 18-month-old son. They were the only ones I could find big enough so I don't have to worry about him swallowing them. We use them during reading time (so many children's books hav one or more of these animals) to reinforce the names of the animals. He's also starting to play with...

3.0 out of 5 stars Quality not great
I was eagerly waiting these animal set in order to teach my son his animal sounds and make it more interactive. Even though it fills the purpose I was disappointed on the quality of the animals, specially the ones with "fur" they seem to have some seams in the plastic on the butt area that make them look cheap. Some tails also seem ready to come off if you pull hard...

They were the only ones I could find big enough so I don't have to worry about him swallowing them. We use them during reading time (so many children's books hav one or more of these animals) to reinforce the names of the animals. He's also starting to play with them independently. They seemed a little bit expensive when I bought them but it turned out to be a pretty good investment.

Some tails also seem ready to come off if you pull hard enough (which I can imagine my son doing in the foreseeable future).
Still I went ahead and purchased the farm set as well since there's not much else to choose from in terms of size and these ones are perfect for little hands.

These are perfect for toddlers who love to put things in their mouths. There is no way kids could swallow one of these toys! They're hard plastic and BIG! I bought these for my nephew and he loved them.

All the Learning Resources Jumbo animals (I have 4 sets now) are good quality. They look pretty realistic and accurate (not like mutants like some toys). They are made of that rubbery-plastic that is solid but will bend if you step on it and have no sharp points. They all stand up on their own very well, though the sheep from the farm set leans pretty bad but still stands up well enough for my 3 year old to be able to stand it up herself. They are pretty big, ranging from about 3 inches long or tall to close to a foot (I think the giraffe from the safari set is over a foot tall). In this set the dog is huge, probably 8 inches long, and the parakeet is the smallest, probably 3 or 4 inches, so no kind of scale to them (the dog is almost as big as the elephant). I would give them 5 stars but they are little pricey (around $25 per set) but overall I'm very happy with them and would (probably will) buy more.

My grandson began playing with these animals when he was about 15 months. He's about 28 months and still enjoys them tremendously- just at a different level.

I was skeptical when my wife got this for our 2-year old daughter, but she loves them. She plays with them often and recites their names (sheep, cow, horse, etc.). They are HARD plastic, so beware of the throw/hit potential. We have a newborn and we are careful these do not get near him.

This was a great Christmas purchase for my three year old grandson. He loves animals of all kinds and was delighted with all the jumbo animal sets that I purchased. I only wish I had purchased them earlier.

WOW I was shocked when these showed up. I guess I didn't expect the box or the animals to be such a good size. These are wonderful looking! I am giving them to my daughter for her 2nd birthday and wish I would have picked up more for other kids for their birthdays! I got a great price and I love these!

1.0 out of 5 stars Over-rated for the price! Bad craftsmanship. Dissapointment!, December 25, 2007

Over-rated for the price! Bad craftsmanship. Dissapointment!

Bought all 3 sets (jungle animals, domestic pets & farm animals) based on the raving reviews but only to be disappointed! Thank goodness though I bought them on sale, it's definitely not worth what they are charging for! Poorly crafted, the bigger animals (dog, gorilla, horse, cow) all appears to be "decapitated" - the sewn line right around the animal's necks; Mr. Giraffe occurs to have a severe hemorrhage - rather unpleasant!. Where the sewn line met, edges are jagged, bad paint job (lead based paint?) not that realistic as some reviews claimed.
My 18 month old son did have a blast with them (bravo for those jumbo sizes); however to an animal friendly/loving/savvy parent, it's rather disturbing to have to explain to the young child why the cat and the dog (catzilla & dogzilla?) are much bigger than the cow!
Paid almost 3 figures for all 3 sets (total of 15 animals). Look around - I found same quality, tag smaller animals for a fraction each at Walmart. Only set-back with those from Walmart are that there is only limited variety of animals. Ugh, we could have had a safari of 90 animals at that price!
