The pieces are well made, and we haven't had any issues with them coming apart.

My soon to be 3 year old son is obsessed with the alphabet. He was trying to make the letters using craft/Popsicle sticks and getting frustrated at not being able to make the letters that required curves. Pipe cleaners for the curved part just weren't good enough. He loves wikki sticks and does reasonably well with them but it still requires a level of expertise that he is just physically not able to achieve yet. Hence my decision to by this product. He loves them and can follow the directions on the cards to make the letters. My complaints with this product is 1) Not all the pieces snap together very well, some keep coming apart even when I use my adult fingers to press them together. 2) The product clearly states there are 88 pieces and that up to 4 students can build the same letter simultaneously. What it does not clearly state is that following the cards it is impossible to make either the upper or lowercase alphabet in complete form from A-Z. This is very frustrating when your child has spent a long time diligently following instructions only to run into problems toward the end. You can make as far as W in the lowercase, and R in the uppercase. Using our own improvisation we did manage to make a complete alphabet by mixing both upper and lowercase letters together and substituting different lengths. Not however what I would expect to have to do. Whilst this might enhance creativity in the long run I would like him to be able to complete the alphabet following the card instructions. I called the company to see if I could buy additional pieces without purchasing a whole new set. They could not help, but did offer a 10% discount and free shipping. This was not acceptable as there original price was $39.99 as opposed to Amazon $27.99.Read more ›

Even though it's called the "Letter Construction Set" it is definitely not limited to just letters! We made shapes, people, animals, and more. My 10, 6, and 3 year old all LOVE this toy! As for my opinion as a mom,a former Kindergarten teacher, and current homeschool teacher-I love it and how diverse this set is.

The Letter Construction Activity Set is like no other that I've seen on the market. This set comes with 88 large child friendly plastic pieces that can be easily snapped together to make every letter of the alphabet both upper and lowercase! The colorful pieces store easily snapping into each other and makes for keeping things tidy in the classroom without any worry of lost parts. The number of pieces makes this set large enough to use with four children at one time and that's a great bonus in any classroom.

The set also comes with 13 double sided activity cards which instruct children in which way they can create the letters showing what pieces and how the finished letter should look. There is also a great many suggest activities in which you can do in your classroom with your students such as Letter Matching ( matching the uppercase letter with the lower case), Beyond Letters ( an activity that encourages children construct something other than letters with the pieces), and so on.

My daughter sat for one day discovering and learning how she could make letters but she wasn't just limited and went on to even making a few numbers and then hearts and flowers! At first she had a little trouble taking the pieces apart but within 10-15 minutes of using these she has had no issues at all.

The possibilities are endless with the Letter Construction Activity Set! It is great for brain stimulation, developing fine motor skills, problem solving, letter recognition, and pre-writing skills. Even my 1 1/2 year old son was getting on in the action. He's learning his alphabet now so he was pretty excited to see us building letters and he called out what they were! Pretty soon he'll be able to build them on his own too with this set!

My 3year old was fascinated with this, and now had progressed to constructing other things than alphabets. The only shortcoming would probably the inability to make all 26 upper case and 26 lower case and lay them side by side, also not possible to make all 26 alphabets without making some creative tweaking.

My son loves using the set the "usual" way- by following the directions on the cards to make letters. Doing this helps him learn lower case letters as well as prepares him for writing by teaching him how to form letters. He also likes to use this set in other ways, including a guessing game {where he tries to guess the letter before I finish making it} and just generally playing with the lines and curves. Another great educational and open-ended product from Learning Resources! {Please Note: I received the set for free to review on my blog, but this did not affect my opinion.}

My five year old son initially LOVED this set. He got such a kick out of finding the pieces that the index cards told him he would need in order to "build" the letters. However, frustration quickly set in when the pieces wouldn't "snap" together. There's little circular holes that need to snap together to keep the pieces of the letters in place and his little hands/fingers just couldn't push them together. It's a bummer because he really liked the toy and kept wanting to play with it, but then likewise kept getting upset that it wouldn't work properly. Unfortunately, I am sending it back.
