Best game(s) for Pre-K, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Learning Resources Preschool Fun Game Board Book (Toy)
This pack contains 6 games for Pre-K + kids. I was skeptical at first, because the package is 8 1/2" x 11." Here's the trick: there are 3 boards, with one game on each side. There are 4 spinners, with 2 doing double duty. It all folds back up into it's little package and fits in nicely on the book shelf.
My family has really enjoyed this set. The great things we like include:
The game directions are printed on each board and are easy to understand/follow.
The rules are easily adapted to match the child's skill level.
Some games are easier than the others, which increases the set's overall useful life.
The competitiveness is toned down a great deal.
Games can be finished very quickly. The longest we've taken on any of them was 10-15 minutes - perfect for a 3 year old attention span.
The educational factor is fantastic; one game matches capitol letters to lower case, one combines shape and color, one focuses on numbers 1-10, one uses a matching game to work with seasons, one teaches rhyming, and the last uses animals to work with numbers. But the games are still colorful and entertaining.
The only thing I don't like about this set is that the spinners are a little flimsy and I expect some tears on the boards over time. But this problem has been insignificant for us so far and we've been using the set for 6 months or so.
Overall, I highly recommend this product. Great for kids, great for parents.
EDIT: (7/2008) After several years worth of use, we've seen some wear along the creases of the boards of this game. Also, the velcro closures on the package of come loose. Otherwise, the game has held up very well under average use. No rips, tears, or other problems have cropped up.
