We first bought this toy as a birthday gift, because our 4 year old was so fascinated with pushing the buttons to open the cash drawer. He liked the play coins that came with it, too.Over the last 5 years, it has suited his needs as he's grown. First it was a play-alone toy, fun for long stretches of time. Later, it evolved into part of a grocery store game played with friends. Over the last two years, it has been an educational tool for us to use, as he learns to add and subtract and make change, something he is also doing at school. It comes with a credit card - we haven't had to use it yet (not as much educational value for a credit card in this set up, since you can't really explain the perils of interest rates)! When friends come over, it is still a popular toy to pull out and play with. You can replace the coins (which seem to disappear) with less realistic, but inexpensive, coins you can find at any dollar store - or use real money! An excellent toy that will grow with the child!

The excellent reviews I read before buying this cash register did not mention that it is solar powered, and I believe this fact is worth adding for those frugally and/or environmentally-minded potential buyers. It worked right out of the box -- no time delay for charging.

This item was used in my Sunday School classroom ages (4-7) earlier this year. Okay, so you are probably wondering in what application did I use this for in a Sunday School room? A: Matthew and Zacchaeus, the tax collectors.Due to its popularity, I decided it was in my best interest to purchase a duplicate so that ten children would not be crowding around one register. The register was never not in use during the entire class time (1 hour and 15 minutes) except when I pulled them away for story time. Suffice it to say that it was a major hit. It has been my experience that the special traits that make it a favorite with the children are: 1. Calculator features (the children who are familiar with numbers were thrilled that they could use it for real life addition and subtraction transactions). 2. Credit card that swipes through a slit in the register and note pad (these two items made the setting more "real life" as they are familiar with these adult items). 3. Size (this particular register is the largest available-unless you are willing to spring for a real one). END

We were at a friends house last night and she had this toy for her 3 year old son. My 2 year old daughter could not stop playing with it. She simply loved opening the drawer and handing out the money to each person in the room. She would then collect the money and put it back. This activity kept her busy for an hour and it would have been longer except for the fact we needed to leave. I have bought her other cash register toys but none have been as realistic or kept her interest as long as this one did. I am buying one for her now and can only hope that she loves it as much as she did last night.

This cash register is a favorite at my house! We often have children from ages two to six visiting, and this is the first toy that many of them go to. The calculator makes beeping noises that the kids enjoy, and the cash drawer opens and closes with a satisfying click. I've enjoyed teaching my son the value of money and how to use a calculator with this toy.

I bought this for my daughter five years ago when she turned 4... it is still a household favorite. The design is good and it has held up well despite its being knocked around a fair amount. The display is large and easy to read. The play money, which was one of my primary concerns, is realistically sized and marked. There is plenty of it to play with and make change too. The credit card is a nice touch which slides into a slot with a beep. The sticky note space isn't as useful or cool as I thought it could have been, but I think sticky notes tend to just get ripped off of the pad and spread across the room by most children. Now that my daughter is older, she still plays with it as well as putting it to use while running her punch & shaved ice stand in the summer. I feel like this was a good purchase and I would recommend it as a sturdy playset with high educational potential.

My daughter is 9 years old, and she still loves to play with this cash register. It's lasted through years of play, and is still one of her favorites. It definitely grows with the child because of the calculator feature.

My kids were aged 1 and 4 when I bought this. They both love it. Toddlers can use it simply by opening it, putting things in, closing, and repeatedly opening it again. Older kids can use the keypad numbers like a calculator for more serious math play and pretend shopping with actual numbers. The sound is a small chirping type sound that is not annoying to me. Most electronic toys highly annoy me. It comes with a small amount of play money. Be aware that replacement money can be purchased at some grocery stores or at dollar stores. I also figured out that buying replacement plastic coins costs more than using real money!! I now let them use real coins instead of buying fake coins. Of course this is after my youngest stopped putting things in his mouth. If you worry about choking hazards just let you kids play without coins of any kind, with paper money. My kids also love to put other objects inside this, little toys and such. Kids who visit for playdates also love to play with this toy. I highly recommend it as a good investment as an open-ended imagination-play toy. Another great toy from this company is the telephone.

Kids love to play with this register for hours. They are exposed to true to size money, while enjoying the sounds and curiosity of the register. A great toy to occupy one child, or groups!

I bought this cash register for my 2 year old to use with her kitchen set that santa brought for her. I like the fact that it will grow with her. I can see her using it for lemonade stands and school. She loves to put the money and take it out. It makes beeping sounds when you push on the keys and rings when you open the cash drawer. It also beeps when you slide the credit card through the slot. I also bought the scanner that goes along with it and it makes it even more fun. Great product!
