We got this as a gift to our 3yo daughter for Valentine's Day. We were thrilled with the concept as described online. We were excited in our initial handling of the toy. There was grave disappointment when we discovered that the lid to the chocolates does not fit snuggly when the chocolates are fully assembled. This is an unfortunate shortcoming of the product and seems an error in design. Also, a few of the "chocolate" pieces look like they are starting to separate. Even so, both of my kids (3, 1) love this toy and it is very educational. As the description of the product indicates, there is a matching componet to the toy as well as a different colors to work on learning colors. These aspects are particularly great for the 1yo. The 3yo LOVES to play with this toy in a role playing manner. She is still regularly annoyed by the non-fitting lid, tho. For example, as she tries to "give" Mommy and Daddy the box of chocolates, if it tips a little too far while she's carrying it, the chocolates fall out. My experience with this product makes me feel reluctant to purchase more products from Learning Resources.

We thought this would be the perfect toy to buy our 2.5 year old for Valentine's Day. She absolutely LOVES it!

There are different 6 different shapes and 6 different colors for the kids to work with. 2 chocolates come with each shape (but are different in color). What is kinda neat to see is one shape is "light" chocolate and the other is "dark" chocolate.

My daughter took right to this toy and absolutely loves taking out all the pieces, putting them back in, matching the tops to the correct shape - very good hand / eye coordination. She doesnt quite get that there are two different types of chocolate (the light vs. dark), but thats okay.

My only flaw with this toy is that the lid - the heart lid - does not fit onto the heart. It does not stay.. snap.. anything, it just doesnt work. My daughter could care less, but it would be nice to have a cover that actually fit so I can easily put this toy in a toy box or upright to take less room.. but as it is right now, we can only lay it down flat to prevent all the chocolates from falling out - the lid is useless.

Overall, excellent toy for a toddler. Highly recommend it.. my daughter loves it!

This toy is cute and unique, and I love how open ended it is. You can use it for pretending, shape sorting, color matching, or even playing a sort of memory game. I found that the lid stays on ours pretty well, so maybe the company worked on this problem. The only reason I took off a star is that some of the chocolates have plastic bubbling where the 2 halves meet, so they don't fit together as snugly as they should. This bugs me, but my kids don't care at all and still love this toy.

I received this as a gift for my daughter. Once opened, I was repulsed on how much of that (STRONG) plastic toxic smell was emitted. I then tried to let the chocolates de-gas outside, for about three days. No luck with the toxic smell leaving. I had no choice but to throw it out. HIGHLY disappointed.

I don't mind the non-fitting lid, although it is a little aggravating. I was concerned about the weird smell. It does say to wash before use on the box. But why? Why can't it come without that smell? There's no way I would have let my daughter play with it... I soaked and scrubbed the pieces. A little annoying you have to clean a toy before it's ok to use. Other than that, it's super cute, lots of fun, and somewhat educational for a beginner. My daughter loves assembling and reassembling, and placing objects in correct holes, like a puzzle, so it was perfect for her.

I sent this back as soon as I received it. I love the concept and the toy itself, but upon opening it, there was a very strong fake plastic and chemical smell that wouldn't dissipate, so I sent it back.

If you look at almost every review here, they will all mention the lid that doesn't fit. But yet most of those people give it a 4 and 5 start review. I am sorry but a toy whose lid does not fit is a disaster. It falls down and falls apart, pieces get lost, kids get aggravated, etc.... The idea is adorable. It is learning (colors, shapes, counting, matching) until about the age of 3 and then can be used as pretend play. So this toy has the potential to be used for a long time. But calling Learning Resources - this item is discontinued and yeah, you guessed it - you are OUT OF LUCK. So ours stays in a large ziplock bag to avoid losing the chocolates and my daughter who is almost 3 is beyond annoyed that the lid DOES NOT FIT. So sorry folks, this is NOT a 5 or even a 3 start item if Learning Resources couldn't even make a lid that locked in place, let alone even just stay closed. 2.5 stars

This is a great idea and even for someone like myself (who doesn't like chocolate - blasphemy!), there is something very pleasing about the feel of these chocolates and how they fit together. The colors are bright and the pieces are a great size for little hands (and large enough to ease any choking concerns). The two main problems are addressed in many of the other reviews - namely, the top does not fit on the box when the chocolates are assembled...a problem they could have solved by making it just the tiniest bit higher (so annoying)...and there really is a bad/toxic smell when you first open them. I just washed them and I think it went away - but I'm really not someone who EVER notices things like that, but it was noticeable, even to me! If your child loves chocolate and is interested in pretend play, matching, sorting, and puzzles, I'm sure this will be a big hit though. I'm going to use it as a bathtub toy for now though (which, in theory, will solve both problems...it will keep cleaning the chocolates until the smell is totally gone...and there is less chance of losing the pieces even without the lid, as my two year old will be contained in the tub). We'll see how that works out... :)
