5.0 out of 5 stars Learn how to learn - FAST!, October 6, 1997
By A Customer
Is your in tray full of articles you think you should read but haven't found the time for? Do you aspire to read all those techinical books but would rather read a good novel? This is the book for you. This book teaches you how to get 80% of the material from a full size text book in under an hour. This book starts with one page (large type) instructions on "How to read this book in one tenth the time". Well presented practical instruction gets you going straight away. You can read all that technical stuff and still have time for that novel! (And, btw its also great if you want to teach others! )

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a readable academic book about learning!, August 4, 1999

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In designing and building an online high school, I have read many books about education and learning. This is one of two (The other is the Net Generation by Don Tapscott) that I find myself constantly referring back to for validation and ideas. I frequently recommend it to people who are trying to understand why we believe that an online high school is needed by many independent learners. It is a great book by any metric. It is readable, informative and comprehensive. I am looking forward to getting a copy of the new edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Truly a Revolution, May 2, 2001
By
Patricia A. Hendrix (Ticonderoga, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Learning Revolution (Hardcover)
This is one of the most exciting books that I have read as an educator. I believe that the book is right on target and that education needs to rise to the occasion. We are still teaching as though we are in the 19th century in many cases and we are in the technology age. Even though many of the methods mentioned in the book are not elaborated upon and the how to's are not there, the mere mention that these ideas and methods are out there and you know who is doing them and some research has been done is a starting point for change in any school. The concepts presented are innovative and exciting. How could a teacher or school not change when reading about the real world and what our students need to know to be successful in the 21st century? I truly believe that the education world is one of the last frontiers to change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rediscover the Magic of Learning, February 3, 2000
This review is from: The Learning Revolution (Hardcover)
If you come across this book, pick it up and read it slowly and attempt to digest what the authors are saying. It doesn't make sense for "beginners" like myself, to read this book in 30 minutes. I read this book no less than 3 times before I can safely conclude that this book is worth your money. It provides an insight into the science of learning, perhaps all schoolchildren everywhere should be exposed to the mysterious mind-mapping and so on. The success of a person may now, I believe, be due to his ability to maximise the use of both sides of his brain. This book is also fun to read as you can actually try out the many examples given. Go ahead see if you agree with me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly superficial but highly enthusiastic compendium of references to better educational methods, September 26, 2005
By
Y. Keselman (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The book raises good problems related to learning and education. It is obvious that most educational systems are not oriented towards their students (many such systems actually achieve the opposite effect of destroying innate curiosity and creativity). It is also obvious that systems that encourage learning and creativity are possible to build. The book is valuable as a compendium of *references* to such better systems and approaches that they use. Unfortunately, they are not evaluated critically. This task is left to the reader. An important message of the book is that the modern world provides many educational options and we must use them well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every teacher and parent should have a copy., December 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really believe every teacher should have a copy of this book. Not just read it once, but have it as a reference to turn to. It is not a book you need to read cover to cover to receive a wealth of information from. You can flip to any page and find useful ideas, thoughts, and innovations that can be used in real life. You may love or hate how the book is set up. Each page has on the left side a mini-poster version of a quote that applies to the text on the right hand page. This makes the size of the book - over 400 pages - a little less daunting. I have taken many of the quotes from the book and posted them around our school, and we always get great comments on them, and many of them spark great conversations, and sometimes even greater debates. I do not believe this book is intended to be an end all solution for the problems in education. It is simply observations and tons of research into what IS working in education, the best programs and schools from around the world. Take from it what you need to help your students the best way that you can, and join in the learning revolution.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Learning Revolution, December 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book arrived in perfect condition - in fact as good as new. It is a later updated edition than the one I studied in the 1990's which I was hoping to receive. However this edition (2001), is even more comprehensive in its study into learning styles than the earlier one. It discusses, among many other things, the seven intelligences - some people being stronger in some areas than others. It is a classic read.
Well worth owning:- for teachers, parents and indeed for anyone looking to improve their learning abilities. Has sold 10,000,000 copies at the time of printing the 2001 edition. Authors' Gordon Dryden and Dr. Jeannette Vos
