learning tree house,
This review is from: The Learning Treehouse: Addition (DVD)
my three boys and two nephews loved it. Even my son with autism loved it. I guess if your kids are used to watching sponge bob and spider man i can see how they would find it boring. I have tried many other products and I found this to be the best. We did the stepping stone videos and those were boring. In my opinion if your child doest like this addition video or the rest the you aren't going to find a real educational video for addition and you might as well teach him it all yourself. This is not Dora, this entire video consists of teaching addition. I own all the learning tree house videos and I have not seen one my kids did not like. My son with autism even liked this. We love the characters, and we started with letters and worked our way all the way to multiplication. I think the phonics ones are my boys favorite. My boys all watched it with no complaints they are 9,8 and 6. My nephews as well and they are 3 and 5. The prices are also very cheap.

While the material is dated to the VHS days of production, it has a level of creativity and interaction of the characters and concepts that is targeted for young children. I find the entire series excellent for young children. I give this series 5 stars because it entertains young kids from (2 years of age to probably 6 years of age), and they learn. Young children will laugh while watching the series. I think it is a great value for early math education, and I am glad these videos exist! It uses a variety of puppet characters like Sesame Street, but don't expect the same level of quality as Sesame Street characters. We do find that Chef and Ducky are very entertaining. Each video subject will use different characters. The puppets interact with Shelly, who is the human instructor. She helps teach them how to use math, and she answers their questions. They discover how easy math is using visual aids, and real life objects as manipulatives such as, pizzas, milk cartons, cereal boxes, cookies, etc. If I had older children, I might be less impressed by this series, but still, it is a very cheap investment for a struggling 1st-3rd grader. I do suspect if the child is having problems at their own grade level, this series would be helpful. I can't really gaurantee this since our children are so young. Other than this kind of learning style, one might consider something opposite such as Kumon which presents worksheets and practice exercises is a very progressive manner. Also, there are many free Internet learning sites for all math subject (Kahn academy, Professor Garfield, etc.) which I would add links for here, but Amazon doesn't like external web links in reviews. Sorry.

This video wasn't exactly what I expected. It is presented in a lecture style that young students find boring.
