5.0 out of 5 stars You will know you are not alone, January 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Learning to Trust Again: A Young Woman's Journey of Healing from Sexual Abuse (Paperback)
There are very few books on sexual abuse by twenty-something women who have actually experienced abuse, so I've often felt like I was the only person my age who experienced it. For years I've been lying to myself about my past, and this book not only helped me come to terms with my molestation but also opened up a few discussions with my family and friends. Sexual abuse carries so many stigmas that it seems like no one will talk about it. Ms. Sands is unbelievably brave, displaying her hearbreak and slow healing to her readers so we can know that we are not alone. I cannot thank her enough for opening her heart like that. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best on the subject, March 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Learning to Trust Again: A Young Woman's Journey of Healing from Sexual Abuse (Paperback)
I purchased this book for my teenage daughter who is struggling with this issue. It took her about 8 or 9 months to pick it up and read. I actually read it first and I must say it is one of the best on the subject and I have read several. I am just now working through my issues from being sexually abused over 35 years ago. This covers so much that survivors deal with & not just teenage survivors. This book earns more than 5 stars.

I've been looking for a book that is thoroughly bibiical in its approach to understanding and overcoming childhood sexual abuse (CSA). This book was exactly what I was looking for. It helped me understand the emotions and struggles of a CSA survivor. It is difficult to find a book that is not steeped in humanistic physcology but still deals honestly and frankly with the subject. Many try to give "pat answers". This book reads more like a story, with snippets from a personal journal and weaving scripture into the recovery process. Although it does not deal with specific treatments for cognitive development disorcers that result from CSA, or deal with the topic of incest, it does deal honestly with the progressive awakening to the consequences of the abuse and a thoroughly Christian mindset for dealing with it. I highly recommend it to those who have experienced CSA or wish to understand and help those who have.

5.0 out of 5 stars blessed beyond recovery, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Learning to Trust Again: A Young Woman's Journey of Healing from Sexual Abuse (Paperback)
I have read this book over and over and every time I glean more truth and healing from my own horror story from years of sexual molestation and rape. I am now to the point in my own recovery that I am able to share and help others who have come through this storm. Praising God for the courage of this young woman. Thank you Christa for your courage.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that will help heal, March 20, 2007
This review is from: Learning to Trust Again: A Young Woman's Journey of Healing from Sexual Abuse (Paperback)
This is a book that can open up the door for those needing to let out the pain of abuse. It is also a good book for those living and loving a person that has been abused. It is difficult to understand how sexual abuse can affect a young girls perception of herself as a woman, unless you have been there. This book helps those outside of that experience to have a glimpse of the pain that is inside.

I would recommend this book to anyone needing to heal or needing to understand.
