4.0 out of 5 stars Those interested in Vet. Medicine will appreciate this book
This book is a very thorough dialog on veterinary terminology. Be advised that after reading this book you will DEFINITELY be able to determine what your veterinarian is talking about when he doesn't use layman terms (in other words, you will definitely learn a lot from this book). The book itself is not intimidating and it does have some very good ways of learning...

3.0 out of 5 stars Do the crossword puzzles
Dry as a "good read", it's got the basics down pretty well, but it could have been better organized. I found the crossword puzzles at the end of each chapter a very good review, and more fun than flash cards. Buy it if you must; I'm keeping mine for reference.

The book itself is not intimidating and it does have some very good ways of learning the information. However, it does get very technical, so you might want to forgo it if you're not up to studying.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Way to Learn Veterinary Vocabulary!, January 12, 2001

I am in my first year in a Veterinary Technician program. Although I also work in an animal hospital, there were still many terms I had never even heard before! This book has an excellent way of breaking down each word--by root word, prefixes, and suffixes. It is such an easy way to learn the terms and comprehend their true meanings. Each chapter has its own self-tests (and answers) to further your understanding of the vocabulary. There is also a section in the back of the book that includes general information of every system in the cat/dog/horse. I loved this section when reviewing for quizzes and exams!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL!, August 13, 2001

I had waited to buy this book for a while and finally purchased it recently. I'm an 18 year old pre-veterinary medicine major. I found this book amazing!! It not only teaches you the terminology required to understand veterinary medicine but also teaches you anatomy of a wide variety of animals and also is somewhat of a veterinary dictionary because at the end of most chapters there is an exceptionaly good glossary of terms used. It also uses methods such as croosword puzzles and word finds along with other tools to make learning easier! If your a pre-vet major or vet student get this book!! It's a bargain for all you get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Learning Veterinary Terminology, August 23, 2002

This book was a great help during my Veterinary Assistant class. My Teacher, who is also a Vet Tech, told it was a must. It helped us break down terms, learn anatomy and body systems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun way to learn terms, December 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my daughter, to help with her dream of becoming a Vet. She has spent her free time working on the puzzles and activies. It is great she does not feel "pushed" to learn it is happening all on it's own.

I purchase this book to learn more things on Anatomy for horse. The book is for all types of animals and I knew that up front purchasing the book. It has been a great resource for me in learning about the horse anatomy and muscles

1.0 out of 5 stars relearning; the inconsistant way, February 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Learning Veterinary Terminology, 2e (Paperback)
This is a horrible book to learn terminology from. The medical terms are introduced without corresponding diagrams. The division of word roots, prefix, suffix and combining vowels are sporadic where sometimes the words are divided at the root with a single combining vowel (a,e,i,o,u). Sometimes the "combining vowel" is up to four letters and includes consonants. I am currently using this text for a course. I went into the course knowing at least 75% of the terms and now find myself confused about what is what. Perhaps the text gets better as it goes along... I don't have that much faith in it. I spend most of my time double checking term roots in the Vet Dictionary.
