Learning to Walk : The Boos Compilation Disc,
By Chris G. "hopebliss" (IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Learning to Walk (Audio CD)
The opener- "Kaleidoscope" -Guitar fuzzed haze begins this
14 song "Learning to Walk" compilation disc first put out by The Boo Radleys in the early '90s ('92 or '93). It includes 3 early Eps and a couple cover songs including a song by Love with a Brilliant cover of "Alone Again Or" - I did first get into The Boos before Love(1960s) - so I was quite surprised when I first heard "Forever Changes" -just recently- I love listening to All these tracks -yes- this is another winner by my favorite Rock band The Boo Radleys. "Learning to Walk" is also heavier with the music reaching Kaliedoscopic Extremes and at times drowning out lead singer- Sice's powerful voice. On "Learning to Walk" The Boo Rads do sound more similiar to the typical Brit- shoegazer music of the day -My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, etc. Just more fuzz & grungy than their later releases like "Wake Up" or their last lp -"Kingsize" -(which is more simple straight forward pop-rock) My favorite track on this Boo Rad gem is "Everybird" -one of the more beautiful songs by The Boo Radleys -showcasing a sad but Pure-pop Hit -"...you don't know how it feels to be lonely.." Other Favorites include "The Finest Kiss" - "TortoiseShell" - "Bluebird" - "Sometimes Soon She Said" -(a bit of a tongue twister) and Yes - The cover song originally done by Love; "Alone Again Or" If you you are interested in The Boo Radleys, maybe check out "Giant Steps" - "C'mon Kids" - "Kingsize" OR their happiest one "Wake Up" first.. Then try "Learning to Walk" ...well they are ALL GREAT! A Well Worth It 4 Stars!...Check it out!
