4.0 out of 5 stars Well made and educational
This is a great bank and my daughter (4 yrs) loved that she could put her name on it. Only two complaints: the slots on the top of the bank that you drop money into are a little big (probably so you can fit in folded dollar bills), but so much so that coins can fall out if the bank is tipped over. The second complaint is that the marker does not work to write on the...

My wife and I had been looking for something to help teach our kids about money; we wanted them to take their allowance and split it up as follows: 80% keep/spend, 10% save, and 10% give to church. The LearningCents bank was PERFECT for this. We were even able to buy a pink one for our girl!

My 3 year old son received this book as a gift and we both LOVE it! He understands the 3 separate categories and is proud to put money in each. It is simple and a great tool to teach children how to save. I also love the tips on the inserts as well as the ledgers available online. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a bank to teach children healthy spending/saving habits!

After much research we decided on this bank to help teach our children about money management. I love the overall look and concept of the bank. Once we received it we broke the lids in a matter of minutes. They were too hard to put on and take off. The only way we could open the lid was to break it. Now the lids are basically useless and just sit on top of their compartments. It is also VERY hard to get the money out. After we broke the lids and took them completely off (they are on some sort of plastic hinge) we still have a hard time getting the money out. the openings are too small for even my small adult hands. You can't tip it over because then all the money will fall out of the other compartments. Overall I am disappointed and am looking for a new bank.

I love the overall concept of this bank and will continue to use the idea of Save/Spend/Give for my daughter's allowance. The quality of the bank is terrible though. The flaps that are supposed to allow you to access your money are made of a stiff plastic (not rubber) and they therefore are nearly impossible to open. They are more impossible to close. When I was pushing the bottom flap closed (just with my fingers) on the Save compartment, the clear plastic completely cracked, broke off and fell in. We now have the flap duct taped shut. The top flaps were finally pried open with great difficulty (no child could open it) and now they won't close again at all.

Great concept...poor execution.

This is a great tool for my 6-year old. It's a great concept. But it is difficult for my daughter to open. Kids need to be able to get in and out of this multiple times a week without an adult. One of the hatches to one of the compartments is pretty stiff and has broken. It is also a bit pricey. It is worth the dollars but there ought to be a lower cost, more durable option is needed on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3-10 Years, Teach Tithing, March 13, 2009

This bank is great for a child who has come into the basic understanding of money and now needs to completely grasp what money is used for and how to accumulate it.

- Seeing the money "grow" helps them get excited about saving.

- It's an excellent tool to teach giving, specifically tithing. Seeing how "little" you give in relation to how "much" you get to save and spend starts little ones off with the right perspective.

- Once the concept of saving is generally ingrained, you can move to saving for a specific item (hence the "whiteboard" area to write in). This builds a great habit to take into adolescence and adulthood.

- At about 8, you can work in interest on savings by depositing into a banking institution after you reach a certain dollar amount of savings. Then your child can see his/her money grow faster with statements that apply interest to what they have saved.

At about 10, we'll probably move to the pig bank with four sections, so we can add investing to the mix...another great tool in the adult money management arsenal.
