Amazon groups this item with the stitching awl, and like a dumbass I didn't read close enough to confirm if I was purchasing what I needed (replacement needles for the awl).

However, these needles are great!
Cheap and strong! Just like I like my coffee!

I stitched a new sewing palm for myself, and these needles are tough!
Even when I grabbed a needle by the eye with my pliers and had to twist to get the needle through 3 layers of leather and 2 of rawhide, it didn't break! Most needles, when subjected to the misguided abuse I put them through, snap at the eye. Some even when I'm using my fingers!

I foresee many sails and gear being stitched in both manufacturing and repairs with these needles!

Leather needles are designed to put through a hole that has previously been punched with an awl. Buy an awl, push it through the leather and then you lace the thread with the leather needle. They are not sharp by design.

I preveously used regular sewing needles to sew my first sewing project. It came out alright but because the needles were so sharp they pierced the thread when I did the saddle stitch procedure and kind of messed it up. With these needles and some studying of some Utube videos I can do a lot better job at stitching. The blunt tips makes a big difference. You will need these needles If you plan to do any leather stitching. Be careful if you use a pair of pliers to pull/push the needles through the leather. Avoid grabbing the needle around the eye. It will break. My fault.

When I ordered these I thought they were extra needles for the Speedy Stitcher I ordered at the same time. They are not! These needles are for hand sewing. The eyes and the points are at opposite ends. The Speedy Stitcher needles, like sewing machine needles, have eyes just behind the points. The needles I wanted are driven through the material. Needles that are pulled through the material are readily available in local stores without shipping charges.

FINALLY FOUND SOME NEEDLES THAT HOLD UP TO THE TOUGH SEWING OF LEATHER, NYLON, AND MATERIAL. BEEN TRYING TO USE UNHOLSTERY NEEDLES FROM LOCAL STORES BUT JUST NOT STRONG ENOUGH. VERY HAPPY WITH THESE AND WILL BE ORDERING MORE ITEMS LIKE THIS.

I used them to put leather patches on a pair of jeans and they did not bend or break. Getting them through is somewhat difficult though.

This worked well for me to sew up a knife scabbard kit I bought. No complaints or issues to report.

Good quality needles for a fair price. If useing with carpet thread these needles are addequite, however the eyes are not big enough for anything thicker and the needles not strong enough for thick leather.
