Finally a PST for us Yuppies ;-),

I have to admit that I was pleasant surprised that Leatherman made this tool. The partially serrated knife is very nice as is the bottle opener and corkscrew which works OK. I have to admit I found that the cocktail fork came in handy over the holidays when the office party ran out of plasticware and I used my fork and butter spreader. This is a good tool for guys like me who don't use their regular Leatherman that much. It's like a Swiss Army knife meets the Pocket Survival Tool at a picnic and someone needs to open a bottle of wine. You may smirk about a tool like this but I can't tell you how many times at work people borrow it. I do miss the file but the scissors are very helpful and sharp. The corkscrew and bottle opener are gold anodized for a nice look. You will use this a lot more than you think.

Nice alternative to the Wave,

Many of my friends have Leatherman's Wave, but I bought this one instead. It's 5.5 ounzes (compared with Wave's 8), and still have most of the critical tools. I think the Flair is a little heavy, so I'm really glad I didn't get the Wave. Plus, it's the only Leatherman with a cork screw (and it's an assisted cork screw at that)! On the downside, its internal edges aren't as rounded as the Wave's, making the pliars less pleasant to use. If you really want a cork screw, get this one. If you're not sure you need it, go for The Wave and put up with the extra weight.

Lose the cocktail fork!,

OK, well, this Leatherman has one feature I've been hoping for: the corkscrew. At this point, we can safely say that there is now NO reason to buy a Swiss Army knife. But I have to admit I was pretty amazed by the addition of a "pate knife" and "cocktail fork" to the Leatherman knife. How about an eyelash curler? Was this REALLY something that customers were demanding? "I love bringing that knife on camping trips, but how about adding a cocktail fork?"? And they had to get rid of the file to make room for the cocktail party equipment. What are those guys thinking?

Eventually, they'll get it right!,

I have to second (or third or whatever) the reviews which revile the pate' spreader and the cocktail fork and the eyelash curler (even though this last is not really present, it would be about as useful as the spreader and the fork, and you'd never have known it wasn't there if I hadn't told you -- even if you owned a fair). I have both the "supertool", which lacks only scissors and a corkscrew to be perfect and the "flair", which lacks only a file and a saw to be perfect. What's wrong with this picture -- and why can't Leatherman see it? :(

I confess, I've been using a pocket multitool for food uses for some time; they're great for pinboning fish, scaling, cutting, gutting...the list goes on. When I saw the Flair, I wasn't convinced I needed one, as my regular and pocket-sized Leatherman tools seemed to work just fine. Then I tried the corkscrew. It's lever-assisted, so it pulls out even those tough plastic corks with ease. The tools are useful, and will cut through most picnic foods with great ease - even artisanal breads and the like. The spreader is a nice touch, but I'm not sure how useful the cocktail fork is; if I need an olive for my Martini, I don't mind fishing around with my fingers. It's a great gift for Foodies (people, like myself, who can tell you which side of the cow a steak came from) that they probably aren't aware of. You never know when they're going to find a perfect cheese, a killer pate or a great bottle of wine and want to share it with you. Don't let a beautiful moment pass you by for lack of a way to get at the goods.

The Flair is just about perfect for business travellers. It is smaller than similar multi-tools and has most of the functions I need, although the cocktail fork and spreader should be retired in favor of a file. The mini screwdriver is just the thing for tightening up eyeglasses or the screws on a laptop, and the corkscrew and bottle opener have come in handy as well.I keep this tool hooked to the strap on my briefcase so it's available on the road or in the office. Add a mini Mag Lite and you're set.

a toy,

Unless you're going on a picnic or planning on bar tending much, I recommend going with either the original or the wave. The only advantage to this is the corkscrew, which is nice, but only if you need it. It's not worth it otherwise.

Need some improvements,

I am new owner of this tool and I admit the idea is brilliant compare to GERBER's for compactness, but the linkage mechanism should be RIVETING not BOLTING. I feel so uneasy whenever I use it since the bolts are easily untied and gone away.If I tie up the bolt, the returning procedure of each tool is very stiff which is very dangerous especially for using knife. All I found it useful is bottle/can opener because of it. I sugest the leatherman people to improve it.

The bottle opener is good enough that I use it instead of a standalone one. Plus it has all the standard Leatherman tools. That's why I bought it and it delivers.
Only negative is that it needs a proper foil cutter, or at least an additional small knife blade. You have to use the main blade, which doesn't work particularly well since it is too long, and gives it unneeded abuse.

Like most people, I think I have great need for a leatherman/swiss army knife type contraption but in reality have very little use for them. However, this one is great. The "picnic" uses make it better for me: cork screww, cheese knife, cutting knife. I've used it often on simple urban picnics. I've also taken it camping and it fit every need in my week in the woods.
