Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The Micra is a tough little addition to the Leatherman line of multitools. It's impressive that such a compact design packs in 10 tools and weighs only 1-3/4 ounces. Unlike some of its larger, more expensive competitors, the Micra truly is a pocket tool, in the sense that it's small and light enough to be carried comfortably in your pocket. The scissors on the Micra are among the most effective we've seen on a pocket tool, and the tweezers don't detach (and get lost) as do those of some other brands. No question about it, this is a great gift--you might want to consider buying an extra, however, because once the Micra's in your hands, you may not want to part with it. --Brian Trinen

From the Manufacturer

This red stainless Micra Tool is so small you will hardly notice it until you need it, then it goes to work for you! Easily carried in a pocket, on a key ring or in a purse, the Micra sports screwdrivers and a knife plus personal care features like tweezers and a nail file. From compact closed position it will unfold to provide spring-action scissors that return to the ready position after each cut. Other features: lanyard attachment, clip-point knife, bottle opener and ruler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool - Fragile Finish, November 21, 2000

This review is from: Leatherman 64030103 Red Stainless Micra Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
I love my Micra and carry it everywhere, but the fashion colors don't last. The finish begins to scratch off within a few weeks. Mine used to be red. Unless you are going to keep it in a velvet case, just buy the silver because that's what you'll eventually have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful but not very durable, February 15, 2004
By A Customer
I've had my Leatherman Micra for about 5 years now after getting it on a fishing trip. Its extemely useful for everyay things, especially cutting with the scissors. Only two things wrong with this multi tool.

1. If you try to cut something too hard the scissors will kinck.

2. The tweezers are way too flimsy to use purposefully. They are too thin and even bend if you put too much pressure on them.

Other then these two problems which you can avoid, the micra is awesome and you will find yourself using it everyday.

USES (and ratings):
Scissors - I use them about everyday to cut out paper for school and also to open packages. I also bring the micra on fishing trips to cut the line. This is extremely useful. 5/5

Tweezers- Too flimsy to use. These thin things wont even grasp anything. Getting splinters out of fingers is about as tough as a job as it will handle. 2/5

Ruler- It is not long enough and many of the increments are missing. Not many uses. 1/5

Screwdrivers- Its always handy to have 3 tiny screwdrivers around. I use these often because I dont have any real screwdrivers that have heads that small. The only problem is that if you try to put too much pressure on them, since there is no lock, they may come foward and pinch your finger. Very convienient though. 4/5

Clip Point Knife- Comes sharp. Nothing really special or different. Its small, but what did you expect? Handy when needed. 4/5

Bottle Opener- Now who is going to have a bottle opener when you need it? When away from home, the chance you're going to have a bottle opener is very slim. The chance you will have your micra is not. Sheer convienience, and also doubles s an XS screwdriver. 5/5

Nail Cleaner/File- The file can smooth down all of the rough spots and hangnails after a hard day of work. This may sound womanly, but I hate hangnails. My fingernails must be smooth or it's distracting for me. The nail cleaner can reach under your nail to scrape out all of the dirt and crap. 4/5

Overall 4/5 for Its size and value. My tweezers are now out of proportion and the scissors have knicks, because of cutting things too hard. Just make sure when/if you get one, cut SOFT things, and don't try to do amazing things with the tweezers.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good tool set that could be perfected, October 10, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a sturdy tool and each of the tools it contains is useful as a small, close-at-hand substitute for something that would be too large to carry around all the time.

As with most of these types of combo-pocket-tools, the ruler is of negligible value.

The others are all useful and made from high quality stainless steel.

The scissors could be made much much better though if the two halves were joined with a screw, as more expensive scissors generally are, rather than a rivet. The blades tend to splay rather than cut, and this worsens over time as the rivet wears and loosens. So the scissors become essentially useless. With a screw instead of a rivet, one could adjust the tightness as necessary. Also, because a rivet is used, one cannot take the scissor blades apart to resharpen them. So this also shortens the useful life of the scissors.

Using screw instead of a rivet would increase the price. Perhaps it's best to just consider the Micra a tool that one disposes and replaces every few months (year?) when the scissors become too badly worn. At twenty bucks, that not out of the question.

Note that, as with all pocket knives, screwdrivers, etc. that are not true "lock-back" types, the tool can fold over while you are using it and damage your flesh. A more secure (a true) locking mechanism would be a tremendous improvement.
