Great addition to the Leatherman line,
This review is from: Leatherman 830025 Fuse Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a PC tech, this tool has been indispensable in my job. I've owned several, my favorite being the Wave, but I like this one because it's lightweight and has just the tools I need (after all, who really needs a saw in computer work?) The nice thing about this one is all the blades lock, and the lock release is easy to use. Another nice feature is the "get only the blade you need" feature. On my old Wave, I would pull out the scissors and the screwdrivers would all come out with it. With the Fuse, if you want just the scissors, you'll get just the scissors.
While the tool itself is built very well and feels solid, my one gripe would be the leather sheath that came with it. It just feels cheap. Maybe I was spoiled with the deluxe sheath that my Wave has, but I would think that Leatherman would include high-quality sheaths to complement their high-quality tools. While I would never consider replacing my Wave for my outdoor adventures or simple home improvement projects, the Fuse is a worthy addition to my collection and is a great asset in my job. I would definitely recommend it.

This is a high quality tool, as would be expected from Leatherman. It has a nice, solid feel and all joints are snug. I carry it with me at all times for those odd jobs that I don't want to run out to my tool box. As would be expected, I am more likely to fix those little problems when the tools are close at hand.
This tool comes with a combination plier/needlenose plier/wire cutter/stripper head, a nicely sized knife, three screwdrivers, a lanyard ring, scissors (which are perfectly leveraged), and a combination can opener/bottle opener. All blades are locking, with a nice release mechanism. In addition, there are well thought out "extras", such a ruler stamped into the case in inches and centimeters which is accurate enough for those quickie measurements that don't require extreme precision. While not as comprehensive as some multi-tools, I have found the Fuse to be a nice compromise between functionality and portability. Highly recommended!

I really like the new Leatherman Fuse. I was attracted to it because it has scissors. I use it for hiking. The pliers are perfect for removing cactus needles and the scissors are useful for cutting cloth or moleskin, etc. I carry it in my briefcase also. It comes in handy in any situation.

Great multi-tool! I'd redesign a couple things though,

I'm writing this in Iraq, where the Leatherman Fuse may not have saved my life, but it has saved me tons of time and frustration. Not everyone can lug around a tool box, and trying to get specific tools over here is a pain (or a rip off). I purchased my Fuse at a surplus shop before deploying and paid considerably more... but it did come with the nylon sheath which I prefer to the leather one.
The screw drivers helped me fix my bike, the stamped in ruler helps me measure 550 cord and the scissors help me cut it. I keep it on my belt, and on the rare occasions I get a care package, it helps me open it. :-) Design thoughts: It's small and lightweight-just the bare-bones. If I was to redesign it, I'd have put a hole through the joint and gotten rid of the lanyard ring (who hangs a leatherman on a lanyard anyway?) to free up space for a saw or something else (there is already a bit of a gap there). It would have also been nice if one of the screwdrivers had a file on it, adding an extra feature without taking up more space.

A neighbor's son is a US Marine and requested a Leatherman for his upcoming second tour in Iraq. He stipulated it should be inexpensive as well. I ordered two Fuses, one for him and one for me, on the reccommendation of a previous review by a US Army sargeant.
I can understand why these tools are so beloved. I've only had this little device for a few days but I REALLY like it. It folds to a compact size, is reasonably durable, and has a huge number of tools contained within its frame. Its essentially a tool box on my belt. It has a place with my wallet, eye glasses, and keys. #1 upside: I have large hands and the handle is just right for me. The grips are perfect as well, non slip without being sticky. Definitely engineered in America for Americans. #1 downside: Sometimes you need to manuever around the wire cutters in the jaws of the pliers to grip a bolt. To me, it was a bit tricky at first, but that should be the worst thing about this fantastic little device.

Good multi-tool,

I was pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised after receiving my own Fuse. First off, its knife is VERY nice - I was expecting a puny little half inch blade that couldn't cut a piece of paper. Instead I found a large, sharp knife that is amazing for whittling. My main knife (Not part of a multi-tool), is serrated near the base so it is not so great for whittling. But the knife on the Fuse is great. It cuts very nicely, and has a nice locking mechanism. Also the Phillips screwdriver is quite nice. It gets quite narrow at the end yet is still wide at the base. This means that it can get those tiny screws on your electronics and still take care of the heavy duty ones. The scissors are also good, but could be a bit larger. The pliers are also decent. However, I do not like the folding mechanism of the tool. Maybe it just needs lubrication, but it seems to be sticky. When working with pliers I don't want to be pulling the other direction to open them. Also I would be nice if the pliers could be locked in position. Then you could use them to not only grasp things but to enlarge holes by opening them forcefully. In this tool if you try that it just folds on itself so you can hide the pliers. Also I didn't like the plastic trim. It feels cheap in your hands, even though it may look cool in the picture. It would be nice to have something that feels AND looks good, given I paid 40$.
Overall though, its a nice little tool, but if you really are in need of technical tools on a day to day basis try upgrading to something a little nicer (and more expensive).

I have 4 leathermans. I have two Wave, one Kick and a Fuse. I broke the large screwdriver blade off about a year ago. I just recently broke the lock for the knife as well. I have used this tool daily at work for close to 10 years. It is awesome. I sent it back for the warranty (25 years) No recipt of any kind. It cost me $8 to ship it UPS but in less than one week I had a brand new one in the mail. As far as these things being hard to open, you must not be using them much. Mine fall open after a few months. Use a little oil at 1st and they will break in nice.

Great Leatherman,
This review is from: Leatherman 830025 Fuse Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath (Tools & Home Improvement)
I work with weapons in the army, and so far this is a great letherman for small parts, it can take a lot of damage but not as much as a gerber, but i still like my leatherman because its smaller and it has what i need to do my job, for example it has a longer flat head, the gerber's is to short, over all its worth buying.

ANOTHER GREAT LEATHERMAN,

This review is from: Leatherman 830025 Fuse Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath (Tools & Home Improvement)
When I ordered this Leatherman Fuse I expected a lot out of it. I own a vast variety of Leathermans and have been very impressed with almost every single one. The Fuse is very well built and all the tools are well machined. All the tools/blade deployed easily and had little to no play once locked in place. The pliers heads lined up perfectly and the tool feels good in my hand. The only thing I do not like about the Fuse is the lanyard loop. I never use them and they have plenty of space where the lanyard loop is to either remove it and add another USEFUL tool or they could just squeeze another tool (like a file or saw) in next to it like they did with the Leatherman Blast. I highly recommend the Blast as it is much more capable (more tools) and the design is a bit better. The only down side is a bit more weight but it is a small amount. You can also find the Blast for $3-5$ more than the Fuse which is a steal in my opinion. The only reason I bought the fuse is to complete the set of tools in that category. All in all this is a great tool that will serve you well. I would highly recommend the fuse or the Blast in this price range.

If you primarily don't do anything past basic repair work at home or at work, the Fuse has you pretty much covered. It comes with the basics such as knife, scissors, ruler (metric and English) and pliers. I'd recommend this if all you want is a Leatherman that's useful for light work and basic things for around the house. However, I'd recommend something else if you do construction or repair on a daily basis or want something that can do a lot more. Essentially, I consider the Fuse to be an "urban tool".
