I bought this along with the bit driver extension and 40-bit assortment to keep in my vehicle. I've had them less than two months and have already been grateful to have the tool handy in the center console on a few occasions. The included tools combined with the bits meet a lot of common tool needs. I also had bit kit from OSH I now carry in the vehicle, because they work nicely with the multi-tool, as well.

I have had trouble with other multi-tools in the past, either for not having the necessary tools or being awkward to use. I have no trouble with this one, and it's comfortable to handle. It's a very reasonable weight, too, not as heavy as some I've had in the past, despite having a great selection of blades. The blades are easily accessed, and the saw is very handy.

I wanted the nylon sheath rather than the leather, but found two model numbers (with different prices) that seemed to describe identical products, both with the nylon sheath. A little research revealed the following:

830037 - Leather sheath - Box
830038 - Nylon sheath - Box
830039 - Leather sheath - Clam pack
830040 - Nylon sheath - Clam pack.

I opted for the 830038, nylon/boxed version, mainly because it was (at least when I purchased) less expensive than the clam pack. I hope this helps anyone else wondering about the various model numbers.

At 4 inches in length and weighing only 8.5 ounces it is no wonder why the Leatherman Wave Multi-Tool is one of the most popular Leathermans' available. This multi-tool is full of functionality in a great sized tool. I especially like that all of the tools function as designed. With some other models of multi-tools this is not always the case. The Wave Multi-tool should not let you down and is a required asset to everyone's kit.

The Leatherman Wave Multi-Tool includes needle nose pliers, regular pliers, wire cutters, hard wire cutters, clip point knife, serrated knife, saw, scissors, wood/metal file, diamond-coated file, large bit driver, small bit driver, 2 double end bits, large screwdriver, ruler, bottle/can opener, wire stripper, and lanyard attachment.

The pliers work great and are easy to grip and use. The knife and saw blades lock preventing them from closing on your fingers which is a great safety benefit. The blades are accessible from the outside of the tool which is very convenient. The saw is sharp and cuts surprisingly well for its size. Do not underestimate the saw. I have found that the screw drivers work well and are versatile. The wood and metal file work as designed and are functional. The tools on the Wave model won't let you down.

Overall, this is a great multi-tool that you should not be without. There are a lot of choices in the world of multi-tools by Leatherman and many other companies. If you don't have time to do the extensive research and need to pull the trigger on buying one of these then decide on the Wave model by Leatherman. You won't be disappointed.

Nice design, nice weight, nice build quality. This model has the tools I would be likely to use if I were in the great outdoors. All the sharp-edged tools are wickedly sharp. The larger tools are easily accessible and the smaller ones can be opened fairly easily with a bit of fingernail.

I purchased the New Wave because there are times when I need different kinds of tools and usually I'm without them. This is a great package, the normal blade is nice and strong and the locking features of the knife make it very sturdy and I don't have to worry about it coming back on me. It is a very smooth multi tool and so easy to handle. You really can open the blades with one hand and if you try you can open the pliers as well. So far it has been a very good leatherman and I did order from this seller and it was excellent service. The bit kit is pretty cool as well, others sell it as an add on for more but this entire package is just awesome. And for those of you who aren't sure, a nylon sheath does ship with the New Wave. I believe you will find this multi tool as useful as i do and it will be a great buy.

I've had a couple of multi-tools before and the thing I didn't like about them was the flimsy pliers. The pliers on this leatherman are like using real pliers.

this is a good tool but feels like a toy compared to a swiss tool.
leatherman is pretty new as far as tool or blade companies go so give them 100yrs they might be making tools on par with swiss ones, till then buy a swiss unless you need a smaller lighter and weaker tool.
to be honest this feels only slightly better than the schrade budget model, which costs half as much.
heck buy two schrades if it breaks send it in and you will always have one schrade has a lifetime warranty.

I bought this item for a great price. It's a great product made of all stainless steel.

The unit I got had a bit of excess oil covering it. One of the handles and two of the blades were hard to unfold and re-fold. I ended up washing it (with some dish soap) to get rid of the oil and used graphic to lubricate the hinge that was moving too hard.

Right now, it's perfect, very easy to open the blades and to unfold the pliers handles.

I ordered this Leatherman Wave because I lost my original one. On the day it arrived I found the old one, so I have a chance to compare them side by side. The new one is heavier and stiffer to operate, so I still use the old one. Both are excellent quality multi-tools. All tools on both are rugged and work very well. They are well engineered and well built. This is an excellent brand of tool.

I love my Wave. I got mine 3 years ago and just bough my girlfriend one too. It is built to the highest precision and operates very smoothly. I torture mine and abuse it on a daily basis and it has held up beautifuly. The knife is still rather sharp without any sharpening in the last 3 years. If I have my leatherman on me I will use it at least once even if its just using it as a letter opener or to sharpen a pencil, its a pleasure to use. I have two complaints about it: my first is that is it rather big and heavy making it uncomfortable to have just sitting in my pocket, however, I bought the pocket clip which holds it at the top of my pocket making it very easy to carry (the sheath is great too). My second complaint is that the screw driver tips wear down fast and need to be replaced often if you desire a very crisp screw driver but mine slightly worn down still work just fine. I will be buying leatherman tools forever and am sure I will own at least one more wave.

As always Leatherman continues to produce an excellent tool. I never go anywhere without mine except thru security at the airport.
