Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Like a Doberman with a bow, the Leatherman serac S1 LED flashlight is cute, but make no mistake it's pretty fierce for its keychain size. With hard-anodized aluminum, Voltage-regulated circuitry for consistent output and precision-machined aluminum reflector, you'll wonder how we kept everything so small. I know, so small like that you would never even guess. Bigger isn&no.8217;t always better.

Product Description

These new LED flashlights from Leatherman give you the mostpowerful output, in the smallest size, using only one battery.Water resistant. The S1 uses 6 lumens with 1 AAA battery.Keychain size: 3.25". Weight: 1 oz. Battery life: 11 hours.

So it has become my everyday favorite.

This is the reason for the 4 stars and not 5.

Bought this little light because it uses commonly found batteries and small enough to attach to a keychain. The construction quality is solid and feels like it will be a dependable light for many years to come. The switch at the butt of the flashlight seems to be fairly robust. It takes just enough effort to turn it -- this way you don't have to worry about accidentally turning it on in the pocket. I like the removable keychain holder. This design seems to hold the flashlight well while allowing easy quick release. Hopefully this keychain holder will not get loose over time.

About the light quality. It is bright enough for most emergency situations. The only thing that I didn't like about this flashlight is that the light is actually slightly violet. The further away the lit subject is, the more violet the light seems. This is the reason for the 4 stars and not 5.

This light is not suitable for self defense as it is bright but not blindingly bright. It is small enough to hold in your hand but not enough to strike with.

Overall, I am satisfied with the light. It is relatively inexpensive and will last a long time I hope. Flashlight buffs might look elsewhere but I find the quality on par with more expensive tactical lights. The size makes it a reliable flashlight, because the only reliable light is the one you actually have.

I got this light as a lightweight back up for backpacking. I really like the quality construction but find the light itself a bit too weak to be useful. I then bought the S2 version, which I love and highly recommend. The S2 is many times brighter and whiter light, it also has high and low if you want the longer burn time. I suggest skipping this S1 and stepping up to the S2 if you are looking for a high quality pocket light.

After using MagLites for years, I have found the smaller versions (AA and AAA)to be unreliable for various reasons. This is simply a better design and seems to have higher build quality. So it has become my everyday favorite.

Good little light, but it's not as good as the little micro mag lite that is the same size at a lower price, in my opinion. Step up to the Serac-2, if you want a leatherman. It has low or high settings, a better light pattern, and is a much higher quality build utilizing stainless steel instead of aluminum. If you don't mind buying weird batteries, get the Serac 3. Pricey, but a great little light.

I used this S1 flashlight one night under the hood of my car (attaching the included clip to my cap visor) for about 40 minutes straight, then, a couple of days after, 3 nights during a weekend vacation, with 2 hours straight lights-on while inside a cave, as my personal guide light although there's to gas lamp with our guide. Coming from Maglite Solitaire, I was expecting that the battery should be almost drained when I got home, but seems still fully charged.

I was also able to test its range while spelunking; I am satisfied. The flashlight does its job, size is just slightly bigger than Maglite Solitaire. With Micra, this is now my keychain.

Also comparing with solitaire (now retired at home), the on and off switch of S1 is well-designed nd well-thought-of: very safe against accidental `on' from inside my pocket and draining of batteries. I have attached some pictures to illustrate the size and location of the on/off push-button.

As a bonus, this time subjectively, I like how the Leatherman mark and logo were lasered in (pictures also attached). They strongly complement the multitools I own.

The four-stars is because of cost. I got this for 16 USD; it's more than double of solitaire. The sweet price spot for me is maximum 11 USD. This figure will also make the flashlight a great gift. I'll check again at Amazon around Christmas...

This is a great little light. Exactly what I wanted. It's a high quality Leatherman product and it only needs one inexpensive AAA battery. It's bright enough for any close up jobs. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
