Leatherman 831104 Super Tool-300 Multitool in Gift Tin / Premium Sheath

I have tried several multi tools and this is my favorite. What stands out most for me is the ability to fold out straight to use at the base of a 90 degree angle. Other multi tools do not have the ability to fold the pliers into one side when open, therefor making it much more difficult to remove screws with any obstructions around them. The new blade lock release and rolled edges are a great improvement over the old super tool. Like I said, I have 3, one in my tool belt, one in my car and another in my camp/go bag.

Bought this for my brother for Christmas. He was very excited to use it at work, he does maintance for a city. The first time he went to use it, the screwdriver specifically, it broke. The screwdriver broke completely in half. I exchanged it thru Amazon.com. The new one works great, no issues.

This multi-tool is a must have. It seems to be well made though it no longer says USA on the tool. God forbid it's made in China, though it does say that on the case. I have knives that are made in China that are good quality. Still this is a great tool and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

My husband loves it and uses it almost every day.It's sturdier than the Leatherman he used to own, and the case is better designed. He does maintenance, so he knows tools- for once I got the right thing for Christmas!

The gift tin is just that. It is has no redeeming qualities. Infact, it seemed a little tacky on the inside (perhaps the overseas journey to India weakened the plastic inset and cracked it towards the plier end). Since I bought it for myself it wasn't a big deal. If I had to gift it to someone, I would hesitate. Better to get the regular one and pack it yourself.

The tool (My first multi-tool, after a knock off Swiss Army pocket-knife) itself is great, a pleasure to use.

I was assembling a toy gifted to my son and this was perfect. So I used the file to smoothen the edges as bit, philips head for the screws and the pliers to thread some nuts in.

I was editing (lol) a wooden shelf to accomodate more cables, and here again the saw came in handy followed successively by the screw driver, wire strippers etc.

Reasons for picking this over the other Leatherman tools available.
* The screw drivers were fixed, which gives it a little rigidity. Also, wasn't sure if the replaceable bits (on the alternatives) will last.
* The blades were inside. This was important, because I didn't want loose tools to snag inside my pocket and possibly ruin it. Yes, it makes it a little cumbersome to use as you have to open it, take out the relevant bit and close it back. But I can live with that.

There are other reasons, but these were primarily why I picked this over the rest.

Things that I wished it had.
*The scissors. When I think of it, the scissor would have been too weak cut anything but paper, which the knife can do very well.
*The sheath, while well made, with leather bits, should have had a double line of stitching. Only time will tell whether it will last.

Cons
The finish leaves a lot to be desired.
*There were molding lines on the plier head.
*The stamping also was not so great. Why not just switch to a chemical etch? (Don't know if that weakens the underlying metal).
*Even the Leatherman badging on the plier head on one side was not clear. (The H looked like an M)

Not deal breakers, but still.

Overall. Happy with it. Will recommend. And great shopping on Amazon as always.

I had an original Super Tool, and lost it. I replaced it with the new Super Tool 300. I got this one because it had the best price, and Super Saver shipping, the gift tin, while nice, was not a factor in the purchase.
On to the tool. Compared to my original Super Tool, this one is a little bigger, and a little stronger all around. The pliers are just a little stouter, as is each individual tool. The wire cutter jaws are replacable, in case they get chip or go dull as they did on my original Super Tool. The handles are rounded, for comfort, which is the one thing I wish they left alone. This makes the tool bulkier, at least as bulky as my Surge, but with less tools. If they left the handles plain, as with the original Super Tool, it could be either an eight of an inch narrower, or have a couple extra tools, and still be the same size. I work with my hands a lot, and they are calloused, and I guess I can see where someone with softer hands could appreciate it. However, I don't see many people with soft hands wanting a Super Tool, they would be better off with a smaller one, as the Super Tool 300 is a large, hefty tool, one for someone who uses serious tools, more than for occasional use. Quality is top-notch, but the sheath isn't as secure as I'd like it to be. I got an all-nylon sheath, like what my Surge has, and it is far more secure than the Nylon/leather one that this came with. Otherwise, I have been happy with it, and have used it in situations that a lesser tool would not have been able to withstand. I have broken individual tool bits on other Leatherman tools, but not yet on my Super Tool 300. They are just enough stouter to take some real punishment. The locking mechanism is simple, rugged, and secure, as well. Great product that needs a better sheath.

Got 3 of these for my groomsmen back in May 2011, I was kind of late in deciding what to get for groomsmen gifts (less than 2 weeks till wedding), so I am glad I had Amazon Prime to get it to me in 2 days undamaged.

I got 3 Leatherman 831104 Super Tool-300 Multitool in Gift Tin's and they each included Premium Sheaths. I checked each before giving them to my groomsmen, and lucky I did as some of them didn't listen when I told them the sheath was under the inner liner that holds the tool, so I had to remind a few of them when they questioned why there was no clip, lucky they didnt' throw away the tins. I myself already have a smaller Leatherman and a ton of tools so I didn't need another.

Since I didn't actually get myself one I am reviewing it off what they told me. They each said they used it quite a bit. My brother lives in an apartment so doesn't have many tools so he said it was great and he used it quite a bit. My first groomsman isn't very handy and his tools are not abundant nor useful so he too said it has come in handy quite a bit. My second groomsman is a bit more handy than the first, and uses it often. I didn't want to give the typical flask or other groomsmen gifts, and thought this would be pretty original, and since none of them have (decent) tools, this would be perfect for all three of them: multiple tools, strong, and not too big.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this Leatherman 831104 Super Tool-300 from what my groomsmen have told me as well as my experience with my existing Leatherman multitool.

I bought this as a gift. I had to return it as soon as we opened it. It had rusted in the packaging. Amazon was great about the return, though.

I had already seen this tool used by my brother, so I definitely liked it. He told me the price was excellent. The only minor issue is the so-called description or directions that arrived with the tool is a one-size fits all the company products that it is virtually useless. That, however, is a company issue, not one for Amazon.

Exactly what I was expecting from Leatherman. Great multi-tool. Great quality. Great value. My husband and I are very impressed with this product. I know my father-in-law is going to love this and use it everyday. There is a tool for everything. I'm glad all the tools lock into place. Makes it much easier and safer to use. Love the gift tin. The sheath is included and fits in the tin under the multi-tool. Also fast delivery and well-packaged and protected. I am extremely happy with this purchase. No complaints yet. :)
