Nice Sheath, wish there were a few changes...,
This review is from: Leatherman 934810 Leatherman Wave Nylon Sheath (Tools & Home Improvement)
Okay for starters, I use this sheath daily. It carries my New Wave and I've tucked a bit card into the back pouch. That card came with the separately sold bit pack (which comes with 2 cards of the LM Bits and a sheath of it's own). Anyway, I upgraded from the leather for a number of reasons. Leather can rot and start to stink when it gets wet and it absorbs water, can shrink etc. I hadn't yet developed those problems with the leather pouch, but I didn't like the look and it was starting to wear a bit rough so it looked ragged.
This sheath uses velcro instead of a snap. I wish you could select the option of velcro, snap, or plastic clasp (like a belt buckle) for different uses. I suppose carrying more sheaths isn't really what they want, but velcro does wear out over time. I also wish it carried the open pliers a bit better. When the pliers are fully engaged, the expandable sides accomodate it fairly well, but the top barely closes. It's even worse when carrying a bit card in the sheath. The horizontal mounting belt loops are also very tight. You can't put a very big belt through it. This is limited by the size of the sheath, I understand, but do they have to be so tight you can barely get a thin belt through? Maybe this will loosen with time. Other than those picking of nits, I have to say that this is a nice sheath, it's light weight, sturdy, very well constructed and it does it's job. It's a fair price if you can get it without shipping costs and I haven't looked back with any sort of regret at my leather sheath, that's for sure. It looks much more respectable for urban carry with nylon.

Great sheath for mid-sized leatherman multi-tools.,

This review is from: Leatherman 934810 Leatherman Wave Nylon Sheath (Tools & Home Improvement)
At first I had a hard time deciding if I wanted the leather or the nylon sheath for my Charge TTi. One of my buddies has the leather version, which persuaded me into getting the nylon sheath. I ended up purchasing the nylon sheath because my friend's sheath looked very worn and had a lot of water damage.
My only major complaint is that you can only get the nylon sheath with velcro. As we all know, velcro will wear out quicker then the leather sheaths snap. That's okay because I would rather have a velcro sheath that lasts a half decade then a water-damaged leather sheath with a snap. The sheath actually has 4 pockets. First there is the very tiny pocket right where the velcro is. It's just a little slot that most wouldn't consider a pocket, but I found that my lanyard loop fits in there perfectly. Second there is a pocket on the backside that fits the bit kit. Finally there are small pockets on the other two sides of the sheath. I find that a mini flashlight (such as the Mag-Light Solitaire) fit perfectly in these slots. If you're resourceful then you can maximize the usefulness of the 4 small pockets. I see a couple people complain that the belt-loop is too small. I believe that the belt-loop is plenty big enough for most people, especially after it stretches a bit. The only reason I docked this sheath one point is because you can only get it in velcro. Although the velcro is good and strong at first, the velcro will eventually become useless whereas the leather sheaths snap will work for much longer. Because the nylon sheath handles water much better I will always stick with it. If Leatherman made a nylon sheath like this with a snap then it would be absolutely perfect.

Great for use with Skeletool,

I received a Skeletool for Christmas (which is a wonderful tool, by the way) and needed a sheath to store it in - this one is absolutely perfect. I ended up ordering the set of extra bits for the Skeletool, and the best part of this sheath is that 1 card of bits, as well as the tool, fit easily inside. I put all my most used bits on 1 card, and now I have a very handy tool - really, it is almost a pocket-sized tool kit. Incredibly useful around computers, as the bits aren't magnetic...

Guess I'm not cool, but...,

I've owned 6 leatherman tools. I have always disliked the leather sheaths, they can rot, absorb water and hold it next to the tool and are harder to close than the nylon sheath's velcro.

The Best/Most Practical Choice,
By
This review is from: Leatherman 934810 Leatherman Wave Nylon Sheath (Tools & Home Improvement)
For anyone that uses their Wave all the time, Nylon with Velcro is the best & most practical solution. My first sheath was Nylon and after a long, hard use the stitching on the belt loop broke, so I decided to try leather. Leather doesn't dry quickly & the snap can break (as my last one did). So I'm happily back to Nylon/Velcro.
Everything I love and therefore use alot wears out. My favorite jeans wear out, at some point my Wave will wear out and so does Nylon/Velcro. Because the pricing at Amazon is so reasonable I buy 2. One goes on my belt and the other on the shelf. When the one on the shelf gets moved to my belt I order 2 more.

If you are looking for a replacement sheath for your utlity tool, larger than 4" closed, this is a good choice. I bought this for a Gerber product for which the sheath was discontinued. I have found this to be a quality product, better than the part I was replacing.

Leatherman needs to wake up.,

Leatherman needs to wake up as a company. What's with the new-found love for Velcro? What happened to the old fashioned snap-button closures? The ones that don't wear out after a few months of normal use and make about 1/6th the noise when you engage them? And is the sheath about twice the size of the old-style Wave sheath? Yes, to hold all the bits that you might use once a year. Still better than the leather version. Sad to see that Leatherman, Oakley and the rest of them are trying to fix things that definitely were not broken.

My elastic sides had worn out and I tried replacing the original sheath that came with my Leatherman Wave with a generic off the shelf model. It FAILED. I use the side pockets to carry my Leatherman flashlight Leatherman 831136 Monarch 300 LED Flashlight, Black and a spare battery, and I use the back inner pocketto carry my bit kitsLeatherman 934870 40 Bit Assortment with Nylon Sheath Only the original would do all this in one compact package and at Amazon's low price - it was a great bargain. Thanks.

Got this sheath as an alternate to the leather case that came with my Wave. My goal was to load up either of the cases with accessories. The leather case couldn't handle all my stuff, but this nylon/velcro case does . . . barely. This case can handle the Wave along with two bit cards, a bit driver extension, and a Maglite Solitaire, with no room to spare. Thankfully the velcro is quite strong (and noisy), so the contents seem secure. I wish the designers had allowed for a little more expandability. Also, in both the leather and this nylon case, I worry that the accessories in the side slots could slip out the bottom in the right conditions. I'd like to see it modified to absolutely prevent anything from sliding out the bottom. The yellow brand details are a bit too bright for my taste, so I ended up cutting off one tab and subduing the "Leatherman" graphic with a black permanent marker. The belt loop size is acceptable to me, but I can see where it would be useful to have it accommodate larger belts. It can handle a belt up to about 1.75" wide. Quality is excellent as usual. This case is easily worth $10 to $15.
