Leatherwolf's debut - remastered,
By
This review is from: Leatherwolf (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1985, Leatherwolf (or Endangered Species if you picked up the UK version) was the debut recording by California metal band Leatherwolf. Unlike a lot of California-based "hair metal" bands, Leatherwolf actually qualified as a real metal band. They put a melodic West Coast polish on Iron Maiden's British metal style.
The Leatherwolf debut is just a classic American metal album. The band's triple guitar attack is gloriously over the top, and Michael Oliveri has a great vocal range. The band found the perfect mix of heavy metal aggression and melodic polish, sounding like the happy medium between Iron Maiden and Dokken. Only the relatively unpolished songwriting (compared to their later albums) and the rougher production keeps this from getting a full 5-star rating. Like Fifth Angel and Crimson Glory, Leatherwolf remains one of the `80s metal scene's best kept secrets. If you're a serious metal fan, particularly of the classic `80s style, you absolutely must check out Leatherwolf, and this album is a good place to start (though the second self-titled Leatherwolf is a better album). Edition Notes: This CD was once incredibly hard to find, but has since been reissued by the band. The reissue features digitally remastered sound. It is allegedly limited to 2000 copies, but they're not numbered and I suspect they've kept it in print. Regardless, the improved sound quality makes the 2002 reissue the version to get. Track Listing: 1. Spiter 2. Endangered Species 3. Tonight's the Night 4. The Hook 5. Season of the Witch 6. Off the Track 7. Kill and Kill Again 8. Vagrant 9. Leatherwolf 10. Alone in the Night

If you are reading this then you are looking at this album by LeatherWolf, which means you must like their music. First of all this is their debut album which is phenomenal in many ways, being that it lays the grounds for a great band!. The album opens with Spider and jams hard and keeps going through endangered species then (the hook) and does'nt stop all the way through!. their isnt one soft ballad on here, if you like ballads buy the second leatherwolf album which is also entitled leatherwolf,. they arent the same record. this album however includes season of the witch, off the track, kill and kill again, leatherwolf, and the vagrant. my alltime favorite track on this album is, off the track because of the their live recording called wide open, it includes many of the songs found on this album and it is so epic. This album is a non stop jam leatherwolf had 2 self titled records then they had steet ready which is very equal to this record, then came a live record called wide open. then a long break came of the band. When they reuinited several years later lead singer micheal oliveri did not neither did guitarst carey howe which they were replaced with wade black and world asylum was produced. However, oliveri, would later return to rerecord and produce new world asylum. This album started it all if you buy this record you'll want to buy more of their records because i did. If you like Iron maiden youll like this album by Leatherwolf.
